The Dunning Kruger effect basically says that ignorance is bliss. The less you know about something, the more you feel that you have mastered it. The more you know about something, the more you realize there is to learn about it to achieve mastery.

Hey Steve - Discernment requires multiple sourced information. During cold war as shortwave listener, I listened to multiple country news station to discern truth. Intelligence requires ability to identify truth from propaganda. The more you practice the easier to see and hear the truth.

These self proclaimed experts with basic knowledge are a problem in everyday business operations. And it does not matter what the business is in. They tend to master the art of accommodating the desires of the one who will get them promoted. Once in charge the Dunning-Kruger Effect will kick in and destroy an operation. In a business environment, rank-in-file or contractors can financially capitalize on the managements incompetence. In a real life grid down SHTF survival, these people could wipe out an entire survival unit overnight.
