A very important lesson for a manager to learn from the GM. The lineup card is yours, but the roster is mine, and if you're not using the lineup card in the way the GM wants it set up for success, the GM will change the roster to force your hand.

The look Hoffman gives Hill when Hill asks "Do you want this door closed?" is awesome.

I know the movie portrayed Billy and Pete as some kind of hidden geniuses for trading off Peña and going with Hatteberg, but in reality it really was a bat shit crazy decision.

Peña was one of the better players on that team and would become an all-star later. Art’s reaction is exactly the same as how any other manager would react in this situation.

1:11 good reaction shot from Art. He must make it look as though he knew about this. He cannot let on that he was unaware of this trade - cannot reveal that he is shocked and blindsided, cannot lose face, even in front of a player who is literally on his way out the door.

Power move Art telling Billy to take a seat.
As was Billy leaving the door open and dropping bomb (Pena) after bomb (Jeremy) on Art.
Peter asking Art if he wanted the door closed, passively offering Art his balls back, was just cold-blooded.

Hoffman was underrated in this role. Guy just became the characters. Taken way too soon. Rip.

I like the way Billy stands up and cuts off the room and line of sight to Art. Basically saying, "no, you don't get to ask questions, no this is not a discussion and it's your time to leave."

Phillip Seymour Hoffman could do more without words than most actors could with them.

"You. Are Outside. Your mind."

Moneyball has one of the best scripts in movie history. Seriously.

“You want this door closed”. Peter knows how livid Art is by all events that had just happened. He showed the upmost respect by asking if he wants his door closed. Small details like this, is what makes this arguably one of the best sport movies of all-time.

In this scene, to the left of Art Howe's hip, is the drawing from the NY Daily News that Bill Gallo drew the day after Thurman Munson died.

"I don't think so, he plays for Detroit now."
One of my favorite lines from that movie.
I'm a Cardinals fan, WAY over in the NL, so I know very little about Billy Beane...even when researching him, it's like I'm getting two different sides, or opinions about him. Is BB really that much different, from an A's fan's point of view?
