Mother learns of son's death months after reporting him missing

Bettersten Wade reported her son Dexter missing after he left home one day and never returned. Months later, an officer told her Dexter had been hit and killed by an off-duty police officer while he crossed a highway. NBC News’ Blayne Alexander explains more.

This is so f'd up on all levels. Man my heart breaks for this mom. The torture all this time wondering where her child was and if he was alive, only to find out that he's been dead and buried. Giving the family no chance to say their final farewell to this poor man. Just sad.

I'm so sorry for the loss of this woman's son. I have a hard time believing the police did not know how to get in touch with the young man's family. If they had been honest and above board and there was no ID, then they would have notified the public. The man that hit him would not have been charged with a crime since the young man was crossing the highway. It was enough that the woman lost her son, but for the authorities to have covered this up is absurd and criminal.

The fact that he was killed by an officer then they basically hid the body is beyond words I hope she gets everything she asks for they could have came to her home and told her that is not something you give someone a call to tell them the police should have came to her and told her exactly what happened as soon as they found out who he was she even put out a missing persons report and they still hid the info
