Volvo S60 T6 AWD Launch Control 'The secret'

I took my S60 T6 AWD for a service at a Volvo Dealership. I had a nice talk with a Volvo Guru there, I asked him if I was doing the launch control wrong and his answer was yes well he explained how to, he also advised that this was not for drag racing purposes and that this should really not be done as it will destroy the clutch so you have been warned.

Confirmed.. this is absolutely a "thing." I wonder if this is a "trick" that's not supposed to work or if this is just an easter egg sort of hidden launch control thing they don't tell us about. Either way, what's happening here is that when bumped to 2nd gear and stabbed to the floor (through the indent), this "trick" gets around the 2000RPM lockout that takes place when you try this just in D, S, or 1st gear. When performing the launch from a manually selected 2nd gear, it immediately shifts down to 1st gear when you hit the indent switch on the throttle, but without the ECU limiting power/boost/rpm buildup. Tire chirp and hard pull from a dig even at 7500ft elevation confirmed in the 2012 S60 T6 I just bought used (~145K miles) a few months ago. This trick probably shaves at least 0.5seconds from a 0-60 run.

Bout to try this in my ‘06 s60 t5. I doubt they had this tech back then though.

These t6 are lookin nice. 60mph in second gear that ain’t too shabby.

Yes, this is the Torque Converyer override, originally intended for pulling away on slippery surfaces.
Izak, do you still have the car?
I love mine to bits

now i'm really tempted to try on my 2012 XC70

The transmission is an auto with a torque converter. From what I understand Volvo said the S60/V60's Polestars can do launch control all day as there is no clutch to burn out.

so this way you show in the video WILL or WONT destroy the clutch?

Can't wait to try this on my '12 S60 R-desisgn. Tested the 0-60 today at 5.1 seconds and think the LC should get it into the low 5's. Still slow, but fun nonetheless.

I’m tempted to do this on my 2013 but then again I’m at 125k miles and I rather not destroy my gearbox so idk 😂

Once you built up the rpm, you shifted it back to 1st gear, or it automatically went back into 1st once you floored it? Thank you.

This secret will cause your 2012 Volvo redesign to chew up any 5.0 SS or 392 from a dig. Roll races these cars struggle because the awd system starts to work against you taking energy away

I got a 2009 xc60 but I might avoid doing this as my gearbox is not amazing.

Do you have to hold the brake on for a few seconds before brake boosting? Tried in my s80 v8 and it wouldn't stay in 2nd while brake boosting. Is there a specific sequence? I couldn't quite catch what you said in the video.
