Spanish Lake Official Trailer 1 (2014) - Documentary Movie HD

Spanish Lake is a bold and unflinching documentary on 'white flight' in the area of Spanish Lake, Missouri, a post WW2 suburb. The town experiences rapid economic decline and population turnover due to racism and governmental policies which support the white exodus. The themes of the film parallel America's growing political divide, racial tension, and rise of anti-government sentiment.

This is such a great documentary. It's not a clear cut black and white issue either. I'm black from and now in a very upscale area and would be upset if a concentration of housing for the poor (any race) was set up in my area overnight. It would change the environment. Even a black lady in this documentary says so.

Some of this is outright "blacks are coming, let's go" racism. Much of it is "there's a new economic climate that's going to make this area change for the worse. We don't like it." Many no matter what race wouldn't either.

The key here is that whites had the land via racism in their favor. It's called white privilege. The poor blacks (not all moving in were poor) were in that condition per decades of systemic anti-black discrimination. So this is the result. Tension. Discomfort. Acceptance. Rejection. Fear. Poverty. Crime. Ignorance. I love that people in this doc are honest.

For those interested in this, it's not full of bigots like maverick jerk below. It's a worthwhile documentary that I as a black from an upscale upbringing who grew up in a middle class black neighborhood, later middle class white neighborhood (with many nice whites) and now a luxury neighborhood with predominantly whites and Asians plus a few successful blacks found FAIR. I loved this documentary.
