It’s just so sad that Elphaba would rather be the villain and fake her death instead of everyone knowing the truth about her and let Glinda take the fall :’(. She doesn’t want her only true friend to be become a pariah, not when she’s truly become a better person. Glinda was willing to take the blame if it meant proving Elphaba’s innocence

You can die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Elphaba can do those things. She needs to be the villain for that reason. Even though the wizard is a lier and a coward. The good he has spread in Oz that needs to stay. Glenda let Elphaba do this.

This whole Wicked musical is such a great addition to the original story of the Wizard of Oz. It touches upon themes like forgiveness and a kind of friendship rarely seen in such a deep manner. The finality of Alpheba's decision to never meet her friend again reminds me of "Pocahontas" and her decision to not come with her love but rather stay with her people. Such bittersweet loss...
