Transmission Fluid in the Radiator

This Tacoma came in with shifting issues. The transcooler is built into the radiator on this model, and it happens to be leaking. This means the coolant and the trans fluids are being mixed. in this case, I'll replace the radiator and then flush the system as much as I can. There's a chance that this is unsalvageable. But it's a chance I'm going to take for my client if it means he won't need to buy a transmission right now.

That's why i bypass my transmission cooler in the radiator and use a separate transmission cooler. Runs cooler and no chance of destroying my transmission when the compartments crack internally. This use to be common on Nissan trucks/SUVs.

I never thought something like this could happen. Never knew transmission fluid was cooled in the radiator.

Just did this on an Acura Rdx turbo yesterday, drained system then flushed it after removing radiator then flushed it again to be sure and it was a strawberry milkshake for a long time until it finally flushed clean man it took awhile

Just replaced the radiator in my Toyota Yaris. During that process, I learned how the tranny fluid flows through the radiator. At that moment, I became convinced its necessary to replace a radiator as preventative maintenance before the thing cracks and causes more destructive damage.

You’ll never have a reason to love a manual car, until u experience this shitty problem. Been there, I assure u, it’s 50 50 in saving that transmission. As much as I don’t wanna b bad news, truth is, flush will only save it for a short run. Happened to me on a Mercedes glk350 after multiple flushes, the tranny still died about 4 months later. But that being a Toyota, I guess maybe he might get 6months to 1year usage n save up for a new tranny. From experience, your never gonna be able to flush out all d moisture inside that damn automatic shit, except a professional transmission rebuilder, disassembles the entire tranny inner components and clean em 1 by 1. Love your videos n much love from Africa❤

That’s why I run a external transmission cooler I installed on my Infiniti g37 for forms
Stillen. I have issues with my transmission cooler built in radiator with a line leaking and also transmission getting a tad hot because of it. Installed the external one and it dropped temps drastically😊

What a great “old school “ mechanic …..not taking the piss, giving the cheaper option a go before spending mega $$ . Problem now days is mechanics are to worried about getting their arse kicked if the a simple option fails and customer goes mental/sues .All his jobs are done with a focus on safety and the customers well being/ $$$ .

If you don't live in a cold climate. It's best to bypass the internal trans cooler and use an external one. You can also do this in colder climates, but it takes longer to warm up the transmission. If you drive with the fluid too cold, it won't flow and can destroy the transmission

I installed a bypass transmission cooler for all my cars so it doesn't use the OEM stock radiator all-in-one nonsense.
An independent transmission cooler and rubber hose is ridiculous cheap compared to spending thousands to fix a strawberry milkshake tranny.

I had a transmission thermostat get stuck closed hauling a trailer. Thanks again EPA. Wouldn't have a trans thermostat or AFM if gas mileage wasn't regulated

Just FYI when coolant gets on the frictions they delaminate and it's done for no matter what. Rebuild time! I always do a new radiator whenever I do a transmission replacement.
