Effective DEFENSE COMBO (Wing Chun + Boxing)

Whether if you’re trained or untrained, all human reaction speed is about the same. It usually takes about 0.2 of a second, on average, to react to a movement and then to execute a counter round attack.

When defending against opponents in a real situation you got to be assertive on your defensive measures otherwise you will be hit straight in the face.

Training using this video combo and I bet you will be able to execute your counter-round punches more effectively and develop your defensive skills.

Omg, I am literally training my wing Chun for this!!! I'm currently spending a month just relearning my boxing and I'm trying to find ways to add it to my wing Chun. Glad this video exists.

This situation is the biggest issue for me when trying to use win chun against boxer. If you don't neutralize him with your punch or few punches there is a big chance to get hit by his hook or cross punches. The problem is that it is hard to see those punches coming when you are close to your opponent. Second problem is that he turns his body while executing hook or cross and it also makes it more difficult to hit your opponent. Imagine if Chris would utilize boxers posture and was a little bit faster with his hands and move on his feet.

This is the biggest issue with Wing Chun - the second punch at close distance. If the other guy has any semblance of speed, I just can't make it work, due to reaction time (I'm 33, WC enthusiast of 12 years). The other issue is closing on a skilled opponent (in a sparring context). I'm glad Adam addressed it. Would be great to see more on the subject.

Adam, that's briliant! Attacking or even just pressing/pushing on the opponent's shoulders is a great way of nullyfying their second punch or counter. It's a very good application of the form (Chum Kiu). Thanks for uploading.

Love it Sifu! As you've controlled his left shoulder for the counter punch however, you've thrown off his balance and footwork which helps to alleviate the force of the left counter punch from Chris. I like to check and trap the hand/elbow, especially if the opponent is a boxer. I feel like I want to be able to momentarily ground him and in the case of this video, once I've made contact with the opponents left hand, my right will then slide up the arm for the head/neck attack. I'm glad you explain the shoulder check isn't a simple push. BTW, quit hurting Chris! LOL.

Wing chun is a "street self defense art. It is not a sport with gloves on. I Love it.

Thw principle is more or less similar to Silat Sendeng 7. They always try to one step ahead of the opponent. Opponent have a time to make a stance is already consider late by them. So their method is beat the opponent before they even make any fighting stance. Their martial art is even more simple than wing chun or boxing cause they only consist 1 technique, punch. It's a very unique martial art, if lot of ppl study it's principle, they won't say, 'what if' again. Asking 'what if' is good anyway, there's not only one method to get 10.

My teacher always like turning the first attack so there's no opportunity for a second attack

how about driving through his center with your entire body while making a slight angle? Also it would be nice to see examples of any of this stuff working in sparring....
