DRAWING with REAL CHARCOAL from the FIRE - The Poor Man's Pencil - Let's Draw a Landscape Drawing

It started with an innocent Sunday drive and impromptu picnic up the canyon, with the family. Emma (9) found a "rock" that she wanted to draw on her sketch pad. The "rock" was really a piece of charcoal remnant, from a once blazing fire. I then amazed the kids with the idea of drawing with the charcoal, itself. I let them believe, for a moment, that I came up with the idea of using charcoal as a medium. We all looked like Cinderella, by the end. Worth it!

Thats great, what a great thing to do with your child! It reminds me of one time when I was out walking -I found a big old hollow oak tree. Someone at some time had lit a fire inside of it and the inside of the trunk was charred. So I picked off a piece of it and drew the tree -with its own charcoal!

What’s the best paper to use for charcoal?

It must have been uncomfortable holding the charcoal like that and getting the dust all over your fingers.
