This song reminds me of my first wife. She was born in Namibia and was an Afrikaner (Afrikaans speaker descended from European colonial settlers) She would always tell stories of her childhood of when her parents took her hunting to a village called Kongola, far from her home city of Swakopmund. She had great memories of her trips there. She said that despite Africa being poor, the people accept life, are happy, and much less stressed than the western world. She also was underwhelmed by American national parks compared to the nature in her home country. Sadly she passed away 8 years ago from a heart attack. This song reminds me a lot of how she described her hunting trips to Kongola Namibia.

I was never the biggest Weezer fan, so I wasn’t too thrilled when I found out they had covered one of my all time favorite songs, but I think they did it justice. This is brilliant

I came here right after watching a video called "Local girl convinces Weezer to cover "Africa" by Toto" It's one of my all time favorite songs and Weezer did an excellent job. Thanks to that girl for requesting the cover!

I see this as great homage to Toto - Musicality of both bands is excellent. I don't see it as a competitive thing...just GREAT music from great musos.

Sometimes when you take a classic song and “freshen it up” a bit, it gets even better.

One of the most underrated bands ever! Always stayed true to who they were.

it’s not supposed to be better or worse; it’s supposed to be weezer. And it’s a good rendition of Toto

Everytime I hear this song it makes me think of Iraq and my late farther..When I was in Iraq sitting on my tank looking at the stars wondering if I will come home, my buddy hooked the coms and played this song, (Well by toto).. Anyways it was my late farthers favorite song who passed in the late 80es when I was 10 or 11..He would of liked different..Its a good thing...Tanker Dave peace out...

This cover is EXCELLENT. It doesn't matter who did it better, art is not about who did what best. This Weezer version has a ton of great qualities to it and I will be adding this to my iTunes now....

Saw Weezer this past weekend in San Fransisco, they played this song, and MAN. My favorite part of their set. Amazing. If you have the chance to see them live, SEE THEM LIVE

They did a great job covering this song. Love the distortion on the guitars it amps the song up. Love it.

I feel like a lot of people get wrapped up in nostalgia and don’t balance the two versions equally. While this may not be your opinion, I personally enjoy how he enunciates the words more that the original and find this to be slightly better.

A good cover of the original, which the original is my favorite song of all.

Both versions of this song are absolutely fantastic, and both deserve to be enjoyed by their own merits. The original is a lively, cheesy song that reflects the 80s, and this cover is a deeper, grittier song that feels like a 2000s love song. I personally love this version more, but both songs are a great testament to their time periods and retain enjoyability either way.
