Another fun fact: the ant that has to carry the infected ant away from the colony is not allowed to return since it might got the infection as well. It sacrifices itself for the colony.

Imagine being the first person who had the brilliant idea to eat a host-infecting zombie shroom.

Another part of the ant story is there are usually two ants that are tasked to drag the infected ant away and the two ants terminate themselves in order to not bring any spores back to the colony.

If a fungi like that evolves to adapt to surviving at human body temps, it's all over

Bee, termites, and ants all tend to their dead. They remove the bodies from their colony or bury them in the cemetery like area in their nest. If an ant also has the smell of death, there Any itself will bury itself to protect the colony. Ants are absolutely phenomenal ❤

Ants are extremely intelligent. I was working in a warehouse one day and seen a rat on glue trap, well a skeleton of a rat anyways. Ant had built a bridge of sand on the glue trap and had picked the rat clean. Not a single ant was stuck to the trap yet that rat was. Both were in search of food on that trap and yet only one lives to enjoy it. Pretty amazing to think ants can be smarter than rats.

Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in September. I have zero cravings.
This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.

I think it's more amazing that ants had enough of an analytical mind that were able to learn about a contagious, potentially epidemic infection and protect those unfortunate enough to contract it.

In The Last of Us, the first stage of the human Cordyceps infection is called Runners. Zombie runners.
