The way I explain it: The processor = You. The ram = your counter space. The hard drive = your cabinets where you store things. If the chef is slow, doesn't matter how much space and storage, it's going to go slow. If the chef is fast, but he doesn't have the space to work (ram) it will slow him down. If he is fast and has ample counter space, but his cabinets are either lacking or cluttered, it will again slow him down. Perfect harmony is a quick chef, with a large counter, and large cabinets correctly organized. That is a perfect computer.

At some point, adding memory alone won’t make the computer faster because people usually use at max 16gb of RAM. Adding more memory won’t help that much since all your programs can fit on a 16gb set as much as they would on a 32gb set. In other words, if you have enough ram, only the cpu and gpu (ssd too) could speed up your computer. This vid was all about marketing, to make people buy more ram than they need.

Sweet. I've taken a few college computer courses, and with all the info they throw at you I didn't really understand the real difference between the CPU and hard drive and RAM until this explanation.

think of it this way. When you are doing some homework on your desk. You are the cpu which processes all the questions and your table is the ram/memory which hold the assignments that are to be later processed. Now both factor can effect speed. If your table is really small, there wont be enough space to keep any papers so you'll spend a lot of time fiddling around instead of using that time to do the questions.

I had put this into the search bar, "what is the purpose of ram in a computer for dummies", and I came across this magnificent answer from this guy. Thanks...

Simply Superb, that's a great comparison which is very easy to understand the prominence. I am really inspired that how much content we read some times doesn't matter unless we remember but this example proves how concisely we can make things easier to understand and remember. Exceptionally Good :)

How easy did you make it. Simple one minute video opened up all the brain cells about performance of PC. I am going for 8Gig on my 64 bit tomorrow. If you reading and agree with then Bump our same thought to the top mate.

More memory allows for running more programs at the same time without having to cache to the hard drive each time the program is used. So with 32 GB of memory you can have open 10 google tabs, a professional 3D engineering program, and a game without noticing any difference from running them alone. Awesome!

So is that what loading screens are when you’re starting up a game or something? Is it loading some of the assets and that sorta data onto the RAM from the SSD so you can actually start it? Like, when do the groceries come from the store to the pantry?
