A few lessons some of Ari's fans should know.
1. This IS the original
2. Jason Derulo didn't write this
3. This song is meant to be synthesized and robotic.
4. She's not pithy at all, the song is meant to sound off and make you feel weird.
5. Imogen Heap is a legend

When you go to a concert you go because you want 'raw' emotion. This is exactly that. Imagine performing after hearing your home has been attacked. Well, she does it beautifully here. I like a shaky, unpolished, full-of-heart voice. She is beautiful.

If people don't know this by now Imogen Heap is Ariana's biggest inspiration. Ariana was doing Imogen Heap covers on youtube before she was even on Nickelodeon.

she was nervous in the beginning, but quickly grew comfortable - it was pure magic. Imogen is a true talent.

This song is supposed to be off and fragile because it is about loss and hard times. If you listen to the choral version, my choir just did it, it has many clashes in the chords and that gives it emotion and depth. In my opinion Imogen has portrayed the emotion extremely well in this performance

50K people in silence for this. Beautiful.

A crowd like this is way more impressive than a crowd shouting clapping and singing, imo. Its very hard to hold a crowd like this for a long time and she did it.

I actually love how her voice sounds without the vocoded vocals in the original version. I also love how quiet the audience was while she was performing it. I don't know if it was out of respect to not ruin the mood of the song, or because everyone was too mesmerized to make any noises for most of the performance, but it was really cool how for the most part, not a peep was made by the audience until the end of the song.

Imogen Heap isn't for everyone, her voice is unique and different, and not everybody is going to like it.

Ariana has been such a HUGE fan long before she gained so many followers, truly beautiful how one of her greatest idols is supporting her 💛

If I am honest, I would say that this was the most heartfelt and genuine performance of the night. No theatrics, crocodile tears for dramatic effect, or anything else unnecessary needed. Just a sincere heart/soul, and a piano to accommodate a beautiful voice! Phenomenal performance Imogen Heap, Bravo!!!

If you're not familiar, this song was recorded through a synthesizer, in its original rendition, which makes it very difficult to sing live (independent from its general technical difficulty). Its original meaning is about the separation of a family, someone leaving their home and the aftermath ("oily marks appear on walls/where pleasure moments hung before" - the replacement of framed, captured moments of happiness [pictures] replaced by generic paintings; "the dust has only just begun to form/crop circles in the carpet" - the patterned appearance carpet takes after furniture is removed; "when busy streets/a mess with people, would stop to hold/their heads, heavy" - people see someone moving out, and take a moment to gaze, showing sympathy with understanding of the situation)

Now apply that original meaning to the context of recent events. The re-purposing of the song is seamless, and she now re-interprets it to the victim's family and friends dealing with the aftermath of the tragic loss of their loved ones. It's incredibly raw and emotional, and that's undoubtedly the largest contributor to the erring in her tone. It moves from a song about loss from divorce, to loss from death, and the emotional threshold escalates accordingly. I wouldn't have been able to give that performance without sobbing like a baby halfway through. That she holds it together as well as she does is commendable, and in the moments she doesn't, it only gives credence to that raw emotion they're all collectively feeling in that moment. This performance isn't about technicalities. It's about feeling. Did she make you feel something? Judge her by that.

So many idiots commenting saying she's out of tune, jeez. Her voice is tender and fragile and that's what makes the performance so good ... and the song is timeless. This was the best part of the whole concert tbh.

This was the highlight of the evening for me. A somber and quiet moment to reflect on the loss and sadness in between the more upbeat acts of the night. You could hear a pin drop. The atmosphere was that reflectful. I'm so glad she performed. How genius of Arianna to invite her to perform this amazingly appropriate song. Yes. She doesn't have the most amazing voice. But that's not the point. Her songwriting and passion made this the most appropriate performance of the night. So glad it's given her more exposure too' ❤️

You have to remember that this song was brought out with her voice symphersized, (sure I've not spelt that right) which makes it a very hard song to sing live, so how about stop judging her performance.

I think people who criticize her singing don't know what Imogen's voice actually sounds like. She has an incredibly unusual voice, it's very gentle and somewhat gravelly, that's just the way she's always sounded, it's part of what makes her so unique.

One of my favourite performances of the night. Absolutely brought me to tears. I love the acoustic rawness compared to her other version of this song. Ahhhh it just gives me the chills. So soooo beautiful xx
