There is actually a very good reason many in Maelstrom don't suffer from Cyberpsychosis as much as we'd think. The answer is very simple. A, it's the music they listen to and B, it's the amount of drugs they put into their body they actually even themselves out by releasing a lot of why makes others pop.

Just as a side note, through the psycho killer quest ir can be inferred that most cases of cyber psychosis are in part mainly due to underlying trauma or mental conditions. While with others, some psychos aren't even "psycho" like the guy on the board walk who slaughtered only the Tyger claws that killed his daughter.

I think cyberpsychosis is probably a realish thing in cyberpunk. My hypothesis is that basically your chrome is feeding you a fuckton of info and it requires a certain level of mental strength to be chill, however as we see with many of the psychos in game they are triggered by something. Some are triggered by a traumatic event like the soldier who had his ptsd blockers removed and others when their mental state is forcefully altered by either implantation of ideas or by some of the really messed up drugs. Even maelstrom used chilled out version of black lace cause real lace would literally put you to the brink of psychosis

V is okay because he's got the relic, as for maelstrom, I'm sure it's got something to do with all the space heroin they do

In the cyberpunk tabletop board game, cyberpsychosis occurs after your Humanity Stat crosses 0 and becomes -1. Everyone can handle different amounts of chrome, some more than others. Whenever a player buys a new piece of chrome, they need to roll dice to see how much Humanity they lose and you usually can't get it back, I think the drugs Maelstrom takes and probably where they're from allows them to handle more chrome than the average person.

The Edgerunners anime actually gives us a little more insight into psychosis as well. Those with underlying mental trauma are more likely to snap. A lot of the psychos we encounter in the game are victims of PTSD. Psychosis isn't necessarily a problem with tech, the tech just doesn't help with the brains already mental strain.

I got a theory about Regina Jones. What if she is collecting cyberpychos to recruit into Maxtac? Melissa Rory(the girl with the mantis blades from the trailer) appeared in game as a "easter egg", and if you have a high tech skill you could pry that she has a mantis blades that were recalled(likely the cause of her pyschosis). Also in the trailer it is implied that maxtech recruited her after she went pycho (that was the twist of the trailer). Plus Regina, got the NCPD connections.

2 things, firstly, it’s effectively a fact at this point that psychopaths and sociopaths have a higher cyberpsychosis threshold then regular people, the lower your ability to process emotion, the higher the threshold. Second thing is that we also know that (seen with Sandevistan) the more information you process the, the higher the chance of cyberpsychosis, going off of this we can assume that all cyberpsychosis happens with a overload of information. Obviously there are exceptions to the rules (seen with David) but that is also realistic in that some can simply process more info then others, we also know that woman have a higher cyberpsychosis threshold then men, which could mean that it’s not an overload of information but simply too many mental processes going on at once (as woman are proven to be better at multitasking) going off of this we can also somewhat assume that Asians have a higher cyberpsychosis threshold as well, which would make sense as they hold the most power in the Cyberpunk universe.

I remember reading something in the game that said if the prospective gang member survived the surgery for the eyes they have, that person is shown BDs to remove their capacity for empathy. This could shield them from cyberpsycosis

It's a little of both. It is highly possible that individuals where mind controlled, and made to look like they went cyberpsyko, but cyberpsykosis is just an overarching term for someone overloading their mental capacity with chrome, and it can appear in many ways beyond just slaughtering everything insight. Cyberpsykosis is mostly controlled by the presence of a already existing trauma or psychosis, such as PTSD, schizophrenia, anxiety attacks, Manic episodes, etc. All of these increase your odds of going cyberpsyko. Cyberpsykosis can take many forms, however, including lack of eating, depression, kleptomania, panic attacks, loss sense of identity, lack of empathy, and of course violent outbursts and sociopathic and psychopathic tendencies. It can be as simple as a trimmer in your right hand, to being as extreme, as being psychopathic killer cyborg that calls people fuckable meat.

Well Cyberpsychosis is like roid rage. This is a description given by the creator himself, Mike Pondsmith explained how he designed Cyberpsychosis. He also explains how some people have more resistance to it than others and those who suffer from it, don’t always go on a spree. Now that doesn’t mean that they could learn to weaponize Cyberpsychosis, however it’s not a guarantee killing machine outcome. Edgerunners and 77 just focuses on the more dangerous Cyberpsychos for story and entertainment purposes. It’s also confirmed that a lot of Maelstrom memebers are Cyberpsychos, prone to violent out bursts.

Short rebuttal: cyberpsychosis manifests in more than just random violence. It's a disconnect with your reality. Each and every one has tipped over the edge into cyberpsychosis. They don't think of themselves as human. They think of themselves as machines.

Cyberpsycosis is triggered by traumatic/stressful events either physical or mentally. The more chrome the easier it becomes to go psycho.

It’s a good thing the creator of cyberpunk came out and explained cyberpsychosis more

One of the biggest factors is being a psychopath before getting chrome

Listen i think this topic is just fascinating, and watching the show open my mind about cyberpsychosis, but im a netrunner, and one quick hack I loved using was the Cyberpsychosis quick hack. What do you think?
Does the cyberpsychosis quick hack throw everything we perceived about the illness down the drain or could it still be possible? Like how tf do you upload cyberpsychosis into a person who is not nearly chromed up to say Maelstrom, ya know?
Would the quick hack just make it more scarier cuz literally ANYONE can get it if hacked or just a “plot hole” to the idea of cyberpsychosis?
