So many parallels from then to this day. We don't learn, we repeat. Thanks for this overview, from British Columbia 🇨🇦

This is all a post hoc rationalization. In reality defending the Ottomans was a completely ridiculous thing to do if not for the fact that the French and British had given the Ottomans massive loans and had the empire deeply indebted to them. People don't realize how controversial this war was within the British military at that time, with most of them wondering what the hell they were doing there.
British history is synonymous with propaganda.

That was simply brilliant. I am a 65yo Australian male, finding myself following current events in Eastern Europe, that background was really good. I will source confirmation in the next few weeks, but THANK YOU

The irony of Britain coming to Turkey's defense yet about half a century later, British men being massacred by the Turks at Gallipoli.

Excellent presentation of events that led to the Crimean war. To do this in just 1 hour is exceptional.

What a superb analysis.
The momentum of tiny decisions, and slightest shifts in attitude, misunderstandings, arbitrary decisions, misconceptions ....
Fascinating

Usually, there is an economic advantage to someone for wars to start. Britain and France divided the Ottoman Empire between them after its collapse. Diplomacy always involves a lot of smoke and mirrors concealing real motivations

A crucial error in the explanation was to show British using Suez canal to connect with India. The construction of Suez Canal started in 1859, 6 years after the Crimean war started.

14 years after the Crimean War, the French found themselves alone against Germany. The Russians could have helped them, but they remembered well whose side France fought on.

This is not a good summary of the events leading up to the Crimean War. This is a recounting of the British role in the conflict, minor as it was. It completely neglects the role played by France, which was central leading up to the conflict and central once it started. If I want to hear or read British propaganda, there's plenty of it around but it isn't very instructive.

Excellent analysis of a fascinating topic; for those who are paying attention, it explains a lot of what’s going on in the region today, some one hundred and seventy-five years later: “plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose”.
