Steely Dan is such a fantastic band man. Their music was ahead of their time!

The intro guitar solo to "Don't Take Me Alive" is something special too. A punch to the mouth to start a great song.

Guitar Pilgrim, your ear, understanding, and execution are absolutely phenomenal. Watching you break a solo down is truly inspiring!

One of the best guitar bands of the 70's.

We should probably note the guy playing the Tele in the video is NOT Elliot Randall, who did play on the studio version. It's Denny Diaz, who also played a lot of great guitar parts for SD.

@Guitar Pilgrim I'm a 12 yr old guitarist, and love to watch and follow your toutorials. Youve helped me a lot with my soloing and guitar playing. Thanks, and all the best, Isaac. Cheers from Malta. ;)

Really i think their best guitar solos come a little later in their career. Your Gold Teeth II (i get chills everytime i hear it), Green Earrings, Kid Charlemane and Don't Take Me Alive, Josie, and last but not least the Peg solo is just fucking excellent.

From the time it came out when I was in high school, I've always loved the guitar work on this song. It's so smooth and elegant and inspirational.

I was just having a week long Steely Dan listening marathon. The timing of this video is suspiciously perfect.

Guitar PILGRIM, nice demonstration of the opening solo, you have it down spot on, Steely Dan, where so brilliant with their music, thanks for showing those who don’t know, just how great the guitar work was on their recordings! You’re humor and personality shine, pleasure to watch and learn!

Some of the greatest guitar solos tones ever are on steely Dan records. They picked the best of the best for all their stuff.

The other guitarist is Jeff (skunk) Baxter, a monster player as well and he actually played with Jimi Hendrix when Jimi was in Jimmy James and the blue flames not long before he left for England. Randy California from Spirit was also in that band.

Hey Pilgrim, you always say " and this guitar solo is amazing ", then you play it note for note effortlessly . You are the " Amazing One " my friend . B.T.W. You have inadvertently cured my G.A.S. ( guitar acquisition syndrome ) I'll give you only one guess as to why ! lol. my wife thanks you .
