Strongly disagree on the versys 650. It is a very fun bike in the twisties, is an awesome commuter, comfortable for touring and i even did some dirt and gravel roads when i had mine. Just get a set of 80/20-70/30 tires a take it where you want. Has better suspension (specially at the front) than the vstrom, more ground clearance, less distance bewtween wheels which makes it more agile. Now against the 790-890 adventure, the price difference is way to big, there is no point in comparing them (for the record, i now own a 790 adv R).

News Flash: The Royal Enfield 650 is an excellent bike and has nothing to do with the single cylinder bikes they made for years.

We Ninja 250R owners shall gather on your doorstep with pitchforks and torches. It may take a while...a very very long while...for us to get there.
In all seriousness, it’s DIRT cheap and is a giant slayer in the twisties, plus it’s literally unkillable...as long as you add fuel stabilizer in the winter.

As someone who rode bikes for a living in the 1980s the CX500 was the go to despatch bike in London in those days. I too scoffed at them and used to call them the “plastic maggot” but after my first year they have my eternal respect. I would put on +/- 30, 000 miles a year on them. Maneuverable in town and good enough for a steady 85 on the motorway. They were fugly enough for people not to want to steal them.

The stuff Royal Enfield makes right now is actually very good. They pretty much overhauled the entire company allong with their manufacturing process, allowing them to make bikes with such good quality it actually tops Fortnines Laboratory Test as the Manufacturer with the best assembly line.

I own a Versys 650. Love it. Its faster, and performs better than you ever give it credit for.

I’m old enough to have owned a Honda CX500 - the reliability issues (mostly related to cam chain tensioners) were easily sorted. These were among the greatest bikes ever made...their longevity is second to none!

Check out FortNine's lab analysis of ( lack of ) contaminants in first service oil from every maker. Number one is Royal Enfield... ... in second to dead last place may surprise you.
The vid is called Which Motorcycle Manufacturer is Best?

I loved my GT650R. It was my first step into "big" bikes after passing my test and also my first ever super sports styled bike. Yes it's heavy, yes the build quality isn't up to japanese or European standards but it was a fun and fast (it's all relative remember) bike. The styling was dated but in the white and blue livery I had it wasn't bad at all. For the £3500 I paid for a less than year old model it was also good value. Keep on top of maintenance and you'll be fine until you are ready to step onto something bigger or simply worth more.

That Versys part made me snort my coffee across the table.

I am so shocked, as a CX500 owner, that he mentioned it. IT'S EFFING AWESOME. I have mine built own and it runs like a beast.

The versys ain't a bad bike. Yammy seriously needs to try the bikes. The versys is so fun. And how stupid of him to compare a versys and a multistrada. They are miles apart in their pricing

The Honda CX500 was the bike of choice for London motorcycle couriers in the late 1980s. Also know as the plastic maggot: I once saw somebody with a clip-on frying pan on the exhaust header pipe cooking an egg. You could keep a second pair of gloves warm behind the cylinders. That's versatility

well respected ari henning chooses the versys 650 for his only personal bike, yammie claims it to be the 3rd worst motorcycle ever made... yeah that's a no for me dawg

Yammie just makes videos about things he hasn't tried and preaching his word like its gospel. Thats how 12y old prepubes act.

Have had two Honda GL/CXs, never experienced any of the problems described here, but both had timing chain failures due to a design flaw. I'd probably get another one if the opportunity arose. Very comfortable ride.

Literally every other motorcycle channel calls the versys one of the best motorcycles ever made

I had a Hyosung GT250 as my first bike. It was great, if underpowered. I didn't have any trouble with it. It was a great bike to start riding on. It had a bigger frame than the usual 250 bike. I now have a Yamaha FZ1 Fazer. Much fun to ride.
