Are Mud Terrain Tires really better then All-Terrain Tires? We get to the bottom of the question of strength by looking at the inside of a BFG KM3 Mud Tire and a BF Goodrich KO3 All Terrain Tire.

I live in Alberta, Canada.
Mud Terrains only work for 4-6 months a year. After that, they're hockey pucks.

Oh dang, I thought MT stood for Mall Terrain

So the All Terrain tire is the best on All Terrain!?!?! That's crazy!

You can also get a light truck (LT) all-terrain (A-T). It will also have a thick 10 ply.

The BFG mt is a superior road tire than it was just 10 years ago. The siping and tire chemistry is much improved. It's important to note that the BFG at is both better on and off road by quite a bit than 10 years old. What was said about mpg difference between the two is important because even visually the MT looks a bit taller and is several pounds heavier than the AT. Unsprung weight and tire diameter are amazingly important for mpgs.
If you encounter mud regularly or perhaps rock climb some pretty tough stuff, MT is the better option. For the other 90 percent of us, AT are pretty amazing in the rest of all weather on road and almost all the trails and farm roads we use. 🤘

It’s not the ply’s but the sidewalls that are different thicknesses

I'm glad that you actually compared the two tires and showed the pros and cons between them. ❤

In my place, we've got a lot of folks that call themselves off-roaders but barely even touch mud or get dirt in their rims, they've even dolled up their vehicles with all the equipment and riff-raff that make them look absolutely obnoxious. 😂

Thank you, very good information. Expensive cutting up those tires 😵‍💫. Appreciate your video, God Bless you 🤠🇺🇸

I see an advantage in the at tire has a thinner wall when you are down it will allow it to produce a larger footprint

I love the all terrains I have on my RAV4. Good all year round and they are absolute units in the snow. Never gotten it stuck and takes effort to spin them.

Been rubbing KO2s on my 08 Tahoe (bone stock) for about 2.5 years now, and I really like them. Great "jack of all trade" tire. I know they can handle more than I'm willing to drive through.

I’ve had both, KM3 and KO2. Hands down loved my KM3s. Yes they are expensive but worth the money.

Specifically the bfg AT... it is an absolute beast in the snow!! Obviously where it's 3mountain rating comes from. It's on my 99 jeep tj for when I absolutely need to get to work. Great In Ice and Snow. Had the MTs on my first rig, 1977 GMC Jimmy(just a K5 blazer) and loved those too. But daily driver winter rig. Absolutely can't beat the ATs except with maybe another set of ATs😂 but pure sidewall! Great video! What we would like to know but can't afford to do😂

The lighter casing will shed heat better at highway speeds, so at long distance highway speed the A/T will run cooler and last longer. M/T tires have a place, of course, I use them on my plow/wood cutting truck due to various conditions I run into.

36k on my K02s, still have nearly half the tread. Was quiet but just beginning to make noise... though great MPG performance and good ride. Great traction snow and dry. Good in mud. Terrible in rain and on ice. Going K03 next year when my size comes out.

My S-10 had 34mpg with 4 Walmart Liberators. Worked great in snow.

Also, important to note that the tread patterns on an all terrain are way better than on mud terrains in snow/sleet. The way the center groove is designed allows for snow to get shot off the side of the tire, where mud terrains don’t.

Many years ago now I used to run snow tires all year round. I lived in an area that got sufficient summer rains that the snow tires were actually the best option year round for me. I can't say that for everybody, but for my specific needs, they were perfect. Did I end up replacing tires a little more often? Yes I did, but it was worth it for me and my needs.
