If your blog has an Alexa ranking of 1 million or less, you can look at using HARO to find experts. I’ve been doing this for years now. It saves a lot of time, and it gets you in front of sources who may not otherwise be interested in participating.

Remember, HARO is where a lot of publicists hang out, so you can use this as an opportunity to build an internal contact list of publicists who you can reach out to as soon as you have another post that needs an expert.

Pro tip: when you send the link to the article, include the logo so the source can easily include your article in their media room. Social shares are great, but you should always be building reputable backlinks.

When done correctly, the one question concept plus the power of HARO is a fantastic relationship builder.

Questions in Minds:

- ONE book that helped you do X.
- ONE habit that helps you achieve X.

The greatest thing (for me) about this video is that it sprang me into action. So thank you very much, Pat.

Pat, dude, I've always appreciated (and admired) your transparency. What you said here is powerful 'The fortune is in the follow up' - It's got me thinking differently now about my strategies! Thank you!

Awesome. Recently did this when I wanted to get top tips for remote teaching by educators who were already a few weeks into it. I found a top education personality put out a similar question on Twitter and I scoured the comments.

I reached out to maybe 20 people and asked if they would want to record their advice on their phone for me to stitch together into a podcast episode.

12 or so said yes. 1 actually got back to me until I followed up and then got 3 more.

Since it was fewer people, I said they could record clips that were a little longer to make a 40ish min episode with my own intros and context of who the people are.

I actually sent them a spreadsheet where they could put what they would talk about and see what the others were going to say in order for there to be diversity in their answers. They could also include all their social media links in there to make it easier for me when I made the show notes.

I like your point about diversity. I sought out teachers from elementary, middle, and high; men and women. Unfortunately the four that got back to me were men but I did get a 1st grade teacher, two middle school teachers, and a high school teacher.

Excited to do more like this for my blog or YouTube channel next. This video gives me more question stems to consider. Thanks Pat!

Colin here. Loved this video Pat. Easy "take-homes" for very doable action-taking! In tandem with keyword research, I could use this strategy regularly across networks. Off the top of my head tho (very late where I am!), I would say to my fellow worldschoolers... "What's the one thing you wish you'd known before you started your worldschooling journey?". PS. Also saw your "follow-up video" a few days ago. Gold! PPS. Looking forward to the parenting entrepreneurs' podcast you mentioned :-)

Love this!!! Now my brain is spinning (in a good way, as opposed to that unproductive going nowhere kind of way)...

Great tips! This just goes to show that you don't have to be the expert in a subject to capitalize off of it. This video has earned a spot on our playlist, great job!

If I'd had school teachers with your style, I very likely would have learned something. I'm glad you don't drag out the info; you get right to the point. You definitely know your stuff; makes the info easier to learn and remember. 👏👊

I LOVE the concept of “Crowdsourcing Ideas”, definitely going to implement that!

Hmm, our one question round up post would probably be along the lines of “What trait(s) does a member of your “1000 true fans” have?

You're sharing there some gold, Pat!
And besides this awesome information, I wanted to say that your videos became SOOOO incredibly good. You improved so much since already last year. Not to think about the last 2-3 years. The value you gave was always amazing but now I've got the feeling that it's skyrocketing through the roof. And also your hooks, your fun, lighting, set up, how you talk, the flow of whole in one.. it's just everything got so good!
Just wanted to share this.
Keep it up !!

Fantastic advice from Pat - If you didn't take notes, watch it again. Worth writing down the key insights & steps.

Possible Question: What's the one thing misunderstood in [niche] by [yet another niche] ?

And FWIW, Google Forms is an easy way to streamline collecting answers (written) that automatically get stored in a spreadsheet.

@patflynn - There is one thing i like about your videos : You sound authentic, you're not cocky, and topics are interesting. Unlike many other " youtubers " i feel like you truly want to share knowledge with your public.
