Ever since switching to the a7s3, its been the first time i was simply happy with the camera. It has improved my quality, creativity and ease of use all at the same time…the a7s3 and fx3 are just so awesome

fx3 autofocus is amazing.. great sharp images with no effort.. beats all other compact cameras in this area

I’m glad you brought up the battery life. I think you are the only person who has mentioned it’s not a lot of shooting time you get with the NPF-Z battery. Wish Sony updated their battery similarly to Canon with their LPE6H battery. Battery life was so good on the Sony A7iii but with these faster processers it sucks more battery to run. You could try turning your camera to Airplane mode if you don’t use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi on the camera just so the battery isn’t being drained for stuff you aren’t using.

Great review! Correction though: it can shoot up to 4K @ 120fps 10-bit, not limited to 60fps.

As a Lumix S5 guy, I have an a7c and wanted to upgrade to a 10 bit camera. Unfortunately the FX3 IS the best option! Unfortunate because the price is a little high (I really just want 24 and 60 fps 4k). So I got the S5 (and I absolutely do no regret any bit of it) but I'm telling you guys, the FX3 IS the way to go if you have the cash! It's such a cool camera from everything I've seen. Especially if you have E mount lenses.

I agree S-cinetone is horrible by itself but if you use it as the color space and s-log3 as the gamma then it's pretty great imo

had a question, i understand the camera has built in fans for cooling,

would the overheating be a non issue using an external 98wh battery mounted on a smallrig cage, since the battery is outside the camera body?

have u noticed significant high pitch noise from the fx3's internal fans?

i shoot mostly indoors in tight spaces, so audio sensitivity to high pitch noise is higher.

the fx3 seems a great upgrade over my sony a73 bcoz 10bit / less compressed files options / 12mp larger pixels mean low light indoor beast vs 24mp of the a73.

i use the a73 with an external 98wh on a smallrig cage w atomos ninja v, gmaster 24-70mm. love it.
main complaints is the compressed files and low light could use an update. and recording limit of 29mins is very annoying now am doin more narrative stuff/long takes instead of music vids.

The XLR inputs are under appreciated. The A7S III a similar XLR adapter. You didn't mention 4-channels of sound. Even if you think you only need 2 channels, having a Safety Track when recording live events that get loud is great. I have a 15yo Sony camcorder with an older version of the XLR inputs. Its disappointing that they are plastic now. But the sound controls have improved. Actually I am waiting to buy the follow-on to the FX3

Thanks for the info. Yea seems like an excellent video cam. I like the idea that I could potentially put a big telephoto lens on it for some great full moon close ups.
