In this video, I'm going to take a look at Garuda's MATE Edition. I have previously looked at Garuda's KDE Edition which was absolutely gorgeous. I'm curious how they handle a less-flashy desktop environment like MATE.

Love that distro. Using it as daily driver for about a year, really good experience.

Okay, I'm literally at 1:47, and I already KNOW I'm gonna dig this. You have no idea how giddy it makes me to see MATE in the old GNOME 2 orientation, with a top and bottom bar, and the top bar having "Applications", "Places", and "System". My all-time favorite release of Ubuntu was 10.10, the last version they released with GNOME 2, and it takes me back to those releases between 8.04 and 10.10 (when I first discovered Linux).

It is called "Display", right in the front window, on top of your settings manager. Edit: in preferences i meant.

I love the theming they have done on the lightweight Garuda LXQT-Kwin.

If I'm not mistaken FireDragon is based on Librewolf.

I've been using garuda for a while and it's worked very well for me. Installation and initial configuration was very easy and the DE looked sweet. Also the chaotic-aur is very underrated, I've installed it on my Endeavor laptop as well. In all honesty though, it makes me realize how distros such as garuda are really just arch with someone else's configs and programs. I realized that I'd prefer to install a base system such as endeavor and then configure it to have only what I want. That being said, I'm sticking with garuda since I already have it all set up

Hey DT, you can use aur package called bsp-layout to get your desired layouts in your bspwm WM and if you like xmonad type of keybindings mean followed by keybindings then you can use this specific syntax in your sxhkdrc file. Syntax looks like: super + e; {e, d, v} after using these two things in mine my thoughts has been totally changed for bspwm and you can make a video on exodia os which is arch based operating system and bspwm is default WM there.

As far as I know, Garuda isn't really an eagle but a mythological creature. Specifically, a divine eagle-like man-like sun-bird thing.
Pretty fascinating concept.
Some call it the Eagle God of Strength.
From the same vein of mythology of Pheonixes, in Hindu, if I'm not mistaken.

I admit, i'm fairly ignorant on the subject but I've done some small reading on it before. Super interesting stuff.

If someone out there is more familiar with this and thinks I'm wrong, please do correct/enlighten me.

Our distro is optimized for performance on real hardware. Installing in virtual machines is not recommended as it might result in a bad experience! (e.g. setup assistant not working)

It would probably be interesting if Garuda made a Budgie edition.

Just tried the the new Garuda Xfce the other day, and it was great. They didn't have that one out until just recently. On my PC it was lighter and faster than the other distros so decided to keep it.

FireDragon is actually a fork of LibreWolf, not FireFox itself

Just tried the Cinnamon Edition in a VM. Looks nice but the system is not able to update.
(error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: removing sweet-kde-theme-git breaks dependency 'sweet-kde-theme-git' required by sweet-theme-full-git).
Two weeks ago I installed the Dragonized Edition on my main machine. It was very buggy too. I ditched Garuda and installed Nobara which is rock solid in comparison.
A distro that can't even do a system update after the installation is a no go!
