An Installation And First Look At Mabox Linux 22.08

One of my favorite window managers is Openbox. And one of the best Linux distributions that features Openbox is Mabox Linux. A few days ago, Mabox released a new version that includes some interesting customizations and apps, including one of the coolest color scheme changing scripts that I've ever seen.

Colorizer is currently a beta, released to introduce it to a larger audience. Version 1.0 will be released with the next major release of the Mabox Istredd, planned for 22.10.

Hey DT, I know this is an older video but I just wanted to let you know that I just installed Mabox 24.05 in Virt-Manager and I am loving it. It's been years since I've run any kind of Arch based distro because of all the crap I went thru with Manjaro but, Mabox is so beautiful, functional and customizable, it just might become my daily drivers soon. Hi DT! You almost have found the best feature of Colorizer, when you changed wallpaper. This change of theme was definitely worth more playing to present few wallpapers and according theme changes.

I used MaBox for about 6 months and loved it. Didn't quit for any other reason other than I like to hop around every 4 to 6 months and try something different. Will probably install it permanently on one of my machines at some point. Truly a fantastic distro, it really got me hooked on minimalist window manager setups. After using MaBox for a time I tried to switch to KDE and quickly moved to i3 and XFCE because KDE feels so heavy and clunky once you get used to a WM.

One of the things I noticed about Mabox that I have enjoyed so far, is how much it melds the best parts of Manjaro, and fixing some of their problems, and adding some of the openbox elements from Crunchbang!# Linux ... it's quick on my old Thinkpad T430, and after I repair my x200, it's likely going to be installed on there as well.. I think Mabox is a great daily driver for a seasoned Linux user, but until the Repo/update issues with Manjaro get resolved, I worry that cloud will hang over this very well put together distro

It is refreshing to see a serious review of a distro. Incidentally, I think Mabox includes the Dracula theme. Isn't that a favourite of yours?

One thing you didn't go into but people should know about is the set of preconfigured themes MaBox offers. There are a few, including a gruvbox, cyberpunk, Windows 9x type theme, dracula, nordic and I think a few others. They are really cool, extremely well-done and a big selling point for people who like to change themes a lot. You have a few really cool ones out of the box and you can make more of your own.

Found this distro on my own. Wanted a flexible, functional and lightweight Distro-USB that I can customize towards security. Mabox is great.

this based of manjaro, so it is the derivative of the derivative, if it were based on pure arch I would give it a chance, but that way it would not even come close to my usb.
