Did Dua Lipa plagiarize her hit song Levitating? Listen for yourself…

I personally think that Live Your Life by Artikal Sound System sounds a lot like Levitating, but can they prove it was stolen? Let me know what you think!

Dua Lipa said that her song was inspired by OutKast and if you compare Rosa Parks by Outkast & Levitating by Dua Lipa they are very similar

They both jacked that cadence from Outkast's "Rosa Parks"

Is she the one who wrote the song or was it written and her production company bought it for her to perform?
I’d say the song was for sure ripped off, but not sure if she did it or if someone else is responsible.

Definitely a rip off, but there are so many tracks like that now a days... modern producers know that recycling old hits has a greater chance of their track blowing up.

I mean yeah but she made the song ten thousand times better

there’s 500 million songs in the world and only so many musical chords, with even less to choose from when you consider only pop music because they all basically use the same 4 or 5 chords. bound to be similarities, is it a rip off? probably. do i think it matters? not at all, good music is good music regardless of where the inspiration came from.

OG Funk, Disco and R&B are the most ripped and sampled.

it is called "covering" . you would be surprised how many songs are like that. Just have a listen to Chi-Lites - Are You My Woman

Didn't realize the Charleston rhythm was invented in 2017 by a predominantly white reggae band from S Florida.

Ha! That's more or less how all pop songs sound to me...like robot insects recording in an aluminum tunnel...but, yes that seems lifted completely. As an old turd, the hardest part about keeping my library current is having a sense of what is regarded as good newer music...it all sounds the same to my ear.

My guess, a producer heard the original & rebuilt it. If the label didn't' already reach out to the original artist & claims this is an original song, then yeah they snatched this song like a benzi box in '92. Infringement happens all the time lawyers will negotiate compensation or take it to court. It's not a coincidence or ambiguous this is blatant. It's in the same key, if a jury hears both songs, It won't take long to rule in favor of the original artist (hopefully they own their music/publishing). Either way someone is about to get paid or pursuing the matter vigorously.

Or the authur of the song sold it again.

Sounds like she (or her producers) did copy… but on another note, what controller is that? 🤔

It isn’t the same text… just the rhythm
It’s the same for break my heart, it’s ghostbusters’ sound

Side note - heard Ed Sheerans "Thinking Out Loud" & immediately reminded me of Marvin Gaye "Lets Get It On". Wondering if the Gaye family will go after Ed like they did Robin Thicke?

It's a pretty common rhythm. It's been there since 1970s. The band accusing dua lipa claiming they own this rhythm, which is part of black culture is cultural appropriation at it's finest

Yes I think most likely but not definite
