I love the fact that in one of the Minecraft books, they actually say to make a spawn pillar

If you are wondering creating a spawn pillar is required as per the official minecraft guide book (the real one)

In Walt's defense:
1. Building a spawn pillar wouldn't be a terrible idea with reduced debug info on, if you actually cared about getting back to spawn without dying. A compass works better but that requires iron.
2. Getting wood by going right up to the tree makes it much less likely for you to make some mistake and punch a leaf or lose the wood.
3. Crafting a wooden pick is pretty quick and you'll be much better if you don't have to find it in autocrafting. I've had fastcrafting a wood pick be a life or death thing before so it's definitely possible this can be a real problem.
4. DON'T EAT APPLES. Every apple is a golden apple waiting to be gilded. Trust me I have played UHC survival worlds and getting industrial amounts of gold is easier than getting industrial amounts of apples. Save the damn apples.

Fun fact: In older versions there was a tutorial but not like that. You had to break a tree then rebuild a broken house and then create a wooden pickaxe and then break stone to create a stone pickaxe.

Edit: Wow mom i'm famous and the old console versions were gold.

That said, it really does bring back the time I went through the tutorial as I played Minecraft for the first time--on PS3.

Ngl, maybe minecraft needs it. This week I played with two ppl who thought you couldnt craft crafting tables and that they only generated naturally and you couldnt mine them.
They also thought you mine wood with a pickaxe.
