One thing I forgot to mention in the video - the data sheet for this charger also indicates that it has a camera on the front! That's actually pretty useful to integrate into the UI Connect infrastructure.

It’s POE powered!

By my math, charging a Model 3 with POE (12.95w) would take 293 days, assuming 90% charge efficiency. That’s about 1 mile per day charged.

If you can use POE++ at 71.3w you get down to just over a month at 53 days. That’s 6.5 miles per day!

The future is now!

All of these features already exist in almost all chargers. It's known as OCPP and allows a ton of already existing software companies to manage everything about charge sessions. Viricity, Charge Sight, The Mobility House..a few examples. But there's hundreds of softwares you can use on any OCPP-enabled charger. It's exactly why the Open Charge Point Protocol exists :)

Now that the Tesla connector is a free standard called NACS, I'd like to see more chargers with both NACS and J1772 cables.

I will buy it from EA if it comes in the EU store. Meaning also a EU type 2 connector. Also good as all tesla’s have type 2 (and ccs) here. Only thing that they will have to do in Europe, if they want to at least compete with the other brands, is to make it 230v & 400v 3-phase. Meaning the max output would be 22 kw (if the car supports it). If it will not, then it will not be able to compete with even the cheapest EV chargers here in Europe. We’ll see.

We just need to prepare for new Ubiquity project announcements for whenever you're on a trip.

Just ordered 2 - I think it’s amazing - I can now charge the customers using the charging stations at air bnb sites I manage

Great video. The SSO apps is for Unifi uid ( whoops see other people already mentioned that 😅)

I suppose it could be interesting, depending on how it handles authentication for usage tracking. Since it's outdoor rated, you could make it accessible to airbnb guests or a neighbor and let them self-serve and settle up later.

I'd rather they focus on getting existing products in stock rather than launching more that nobody can buy

(After finishing the video) Yup, he called it 😂

"Plug and Charge" can mean two things, either it is plug in and charge for free ( simple and basic, does not need the fancy communication ) OR and that would be much more impressive, it would support the real "Plug and Charge" defined in the ISO15118-2 protocol where the charger reads the payment contract / certificate that is stored in the vehicle ( over power line communication by the Green phy interface ( ipv6 and many more fancy layers )), which would make it a fancy network device.

Ubiquiti wants to enter new markets like EV chargers, while their core competences get weaker, product availability gets horrible and bugs are stay unfixed

As I have said before here and elsewhere, UBNT need to finnish all the other half-baked products before branching into other areas. UBNT is still pro-sumer and not enterprise when we are dealing with bad firmwares and features breaking stuff all the time. Throw crap on the wall and see what love it.

Yeah would be nice if they could focus their efforts on the software for existing hardware!!!!

I can see employees that don't have a garage like those who live in apartments would like to have charging at work. But for the others they won't need to charge at work and will only want the parking space if it's close to the building. I would suggest putting most of them at the back of the parking lot so only those who need them will use them.

Some good points, we have this year fitted out two buildings with EV chargers, Company Vans and cars, I do not think my brother (CEO) considered a non-company user using our electric to charge their vehicle. Ubiquiti have a point that authorised chargers and possible rates of charge could be controlled. Who knows maybe DC chargers?

Ubiquiti is going downhill fast. Rather than focusing on one category of products, they want to be in every category. They need to stop.
