The 60s Invaders Goofs and Fun Facts

Goofs and fun facts from the 60s television sci-fi classic series the Invaders starring Roy Thinnes. The alien invasion show was a pioneer in science fiction television paving the way for many sci-fi and UFO TV shows to come, but it was not without a few goofs and mistakes here and there.

In this video I take a look at some of the special effects that didn't quite work, continuity errors, stuntman sightings, and more from the 1960s Invaders. I also look at some fun facts of the show like how David Vincent was able to detect aliens from looking at their fingers. I also look at some of the noteworthy guest stars from classic television shows like the Waltons, Brady Bunch, and Gilligan's Island.

Get ready for a flying saucer goof, aliens turning red and vaporizing, laser guns, and all those awesome sci-f 60s vibes.

The effect of the aliens vaporizing is still cool.

Never watched the show as a kid, but was well aware of the spaceship from seeing the model kit from Aurora at my local hobby shop.
I was thinking of binge-watching the DVDs, but I'm glad you showed me how crappy the special effects were, so I don't have to waste my time. Thanks again!

I agree a lot of visual oddities were covered up by the poorer definition of the TV screens of the time. Also a heck of a lot of us only had black and white TV's.

I was working on a ship in port and they were filming scenes for an episode of this show on a pier next to us. I saw Susanne Pleschette and Roy Thinnes both. In one scene a car entered the scene. Two guys pushed the car onto the set. I don't know why. Not too long afterwards I watched that show on TV. In some of the scenes the ship I was working on was in the background.

I've never seen or heard of this show before.
Maybe the dude with the canteen hid it in his pants.
"Is that a canteen in your pants or are you just overly excited to see me?"

I remember seeing the first episode broadcast in Jan of 1967 I was 11. Loved the show as a kid. It disappeared for decades. When it came out on DVD I had to get the 2 seasons. Enjoyed watching them as now I recognized so many actors from movies and shows. As an adult I realized the plots were not that stellar and how bad the aliens were at planning and logistics. The show did make an impression on me as a youth so much so when Pizza Hut came out with their red roof logo it immediately reminded me of the alien saucer shape. Thanks for doing an episode on it. Many people my age don’t even remember the series.

The first episode is the best, Diane Baker nails it in the small town proprietress of a hotel.

The thing I always remember was that theme, and even though the special effects weren't brilliant, it had something. It reminded me of that other series The Fugitive, which used the same locations and possibly source stories though no FBI chases or one agency involved in Invaders oddly though a series a few years later used a similar location or two it's episodes Project Blue Book and didn't the lead actor appear in Project Blue Book. And invaders did sort of inspired V and not mention War Of The Worlds series with said star from Invaders in an episode or two Roy got around in all science fiction series and even documentaries like a special on Alien invaders and myths and legends in the mid 70s and early 80s?
One other thing with Invaders, I seem to recall there was a feature film episode of the series mid-60s a possible two parter where we actually get see the real aliens on board the mother ship in space when David finally see victory or believes so?

I loved this show as a kid. I tried to watch it as an adult, but couldn't once I realized there is no continuity. This is even worse than the goofs mentioned here.
