Why Breaking Out of Prison Is Not a Crime in Germany

Besides having the best high speed road network in the world, Germany also has a penal code that doesn't punish those who break out of prison.

In popular belief, sending someone to prison is a punishment for the crime that person committed. However, besides those who are sent to life imprisonment, sooner or later prisoners are released into society. The german lawmakers took this very seriously. So they built a criminal justice system that focuses more on prevention and rehabilitation, and less on retribution and punishment.

The system is designed so that it would ease as much as possible the reintegration of prisoners into society in order for them to lead a life free of crime.

Germany used to torture criminals to death. They’ve come a long way. The rest of the world ought to catch up.

Honestly this is really well-informed and pretty eye-opening.

I always knew that it was legal to break out of prison in Germany, but a lot of those other standards are fascinating and eye opening to how terrible the United States prison system is.

So technically bringing your prison uniform would be stealing state property.

So if you dont break any doors and find a way to just well.. walk out of the prison or jail.. naked.. with no state property you can legally just leave?

I like this system, but are the prison guards allowed to stop them? And are the escapees tried to be found? Is it fair for a murderer who killed someone’s daughter to just escape without punishment?
