The thing about 'Progressive Revelation' is that the progress _doesn't occur within religion_ but externally, and in opposition to it.

by the way, something worth sharing.
yesterday I watched a documentary about the italian maffia, about an incognito member telling his story.
he talked about his atrocities almost like a regular man talks about his regular job. there was barely a hint of remorse.
he talked about how after he took people's lives, he went to the church to confess.
I never really thought about it but it came to my mind what a terrible concept confessions are. how they allow you to cheat yourself out of a deserved feeling of guilt. how they allow you to think of yourself as less of a criminal, indirectly enabling criminal behaviour. and how it takes power from victims when it introduces a mechanism to be forgiven without the perpetrator actually facing the victim or other members of society. and how forgiveness can be granted without the victim's consent.
and how the idea of sin implies that a bad deed is not something to resolve (or not) between a perpetrator and victim but a transgression against god that magically disappears if you perform a ritual...leaving the victim sidelined and taking their agency away.
I wonder...would it have been harder to kill if the maffioso knew that there is no way whatsoever to lessen his guilt?

The mental gymnastics hurt my head sometimes. These scriptures were written by people to favour themselves.

Christianity is a religion of love. Islam is a religion of peace. And North Korea is Democratic. None of these statements can be doubted 😂

Would the American Civil War ever happen if the Bible strongly condemned slavery. Slave owners used the Bible to justify slavery which was the key factor that triggered that war

We are told to worship a god that is all-powerful, all-knowing and capable of creating all the wondrous complexities of life, but was so primitive and inept it could only resolve issues by murdering people. Christianity is built on immorality.

The fact that I got an ad for "jesus saves you through an app" on this video is so ironic, I had to mention it.

Nice. Great to have a hard-hitting, comprehensive vid on this topic.

As an addition, the idea that these immoral commands were somehow allegorcial gets interesting when King Saul is punished by God for keeping a few of the best cows to be sacrificed to God. Which unfortunately ran afoul of God's command to kill everything that breathed.

Another excellent talk, Mr. Woodford. Thank you. Loved how it is concluded "... to perpetuate a dangerous moral error". I have attempted to make a very similar argument to some of my so-called "christian" acquaintances, reflecting how the bible's instruction for man to "have dominion" over all the earth, that "god's people" had a right to invade and conquer the lands of indigenous people based on the principle of Manifest Destiny, and how that thread of thinking has permeated culture through the centuries - alas, always to no avail. Because the ego's attachment to ideological identity 'trumps' (bit of a pun) all when it comes belief. Don't threaten my psychological underpinnings...

When people condemn awful behavior by stating how the Bible or Jesus teach us better, I correct them by pointing the atrocities they both supported.

I went to Mongolia last year and the crazy thing that I did not expect to find is that everyone there reveres Ghengis Khan as a national hero for conquering the world in the name of Mongolia.

At least, the Greeks admitted that their gods had all the human moral failings of lust, anger, and desire for revenge. They constanty quarrelled amongst themselves.
