I prefer seasons 4-6 Peter, a perfect balance of the two, seasons 1-3 Peter was also good but felt a bit too much like Homer.

Totally agreed. I only watch the first few seasons because of this exact shift in character expression.

In the first season, Peter is constantly saying and doing whatever he can to make his family happy, even if it's a bad idea. Most of the time, when he fucks up, it's because of one of his many vices, and while he's definitely a drunk and addicted to television, he always tried to change to make his wife and children happy.

I personally like season 7 to 12 the most. Didn't like the drawing earlier, didn't like (generally) the narrative and jokes later.
