I'm from the USA and Discovered KRAFTWERK back in 1974/75 when I was in Junior High. While listening to the radio in my art class the DJ said " This is what the Future sounds like ' and then played " Autobahn " I have been a Fan ever since. I consider them to be the Forefathers of the Electronic Movement which have Inspired and Influence many.

They need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame No Doubt there wouldn't be bands like Depeche Mode Human League New Order and other synthesize bands without Kraftwerk

I have heard Kraftwerk music since I was a little child in elementary school in Atlanta Ga-USA. Even at 52 yrs of age, I still love their music. As many black city dwellers.

For Paul Morley to say that Beatles didn’t influence anyone other than Elton John shows complete ignorance and destroys his credibility. The Beatles were amongst the first to combine tape loops and sonic experimentation with accessible songs ( and amongst the first to use a Moog synthesiser on Abbey Road). Kraftwerk obviously took it a step further and we’re hugely influential pioneers of purely electronic music. This guy just comes across, though, as a pretentious hipster trying to bash ‘mainstream’ rock for no obvious reason. Just listen to Tomorrow Never Knows from 1966 - that would have mind blowing back then, and still holds up today.

Why is this guy bashing rock performance?
It's just another way of expression, not better or worse.
He says people were small minded for not accepting machines in music but like, Jimi Hendrix wailing on his guitar and moving along to it is pure expression to me. Kraftwerk in a way subverted that and did their own thing. That's to me what's so great about music, the huge variety and constant evolution. No need to exclude, great music comes in all forms!
I admire his passion for Kraftwerk tho.

Kraftwerk the most important group of all time.

The contention that Kraftwerk is "more influential" than the Beatles is dubious at best, for the following reason: the Beatles innovated the model of a pop group that writes its own songs and records them. In doing so the Beatles succeed in personalizing the pop group model -- make it a vehicle for personal expression. Every band subsequent to the Beatles -- Kraftwerk included -- has utilized this model. Kraftwerk may carry that model forward into "futuristic" dimensions, by using synthesizers in place of electric guitars, thus allowing for exploration of man-machine hybridity suited to our digital times, but they are not the inventors of the pop model they employ. And the Beatles are. The Beatles actually changed the world; Kraftwerk found a place within that changed world.

I laughed my head off when the guy said he wished Kraftwerk weren't associated with techno because "Most techno is shit."

That guy who tries to sell me the idea that rock music is soulless and the beatles didn’t have the same inpact than Kraftwerk just pisses me off!

Why can’t we all agree that the beatles AND Kraftwerk had an enormous impact on music. I don’t understand why this is so hard for certain people to grasp...

they started the entire electro-funk breakdancing craze, oddly as a sidenote. Bet they didn't expect that.

When you see most of the german youth sitting ducked on the ground, ashamedly clapping their hands whilst a full-on can performance, you recognize how strong oppression before techno really was in germany. thanks to kw and others, this has changed, during the 90s there was a strong movement that the youth of today has lost and we go back into ( digital ) opression. Xcuse my kraut english and R.I.P. Florian Schneider, without him mr. Huetter would never had his grammy....
