📜 Lyrics: "Time"

Time
Flowing like a river
Time
Beckoning me
Who knows when we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river
To the sea

Goodbye my love
Maybe for forever
Goodbye my love
The tide waits for me
Who knows when we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea
To the sea

Till it's gone forever
Gone forever
Gone forevermore

Goodbye my friend
Maybe for forever
Goodbye my friend
The stars wait for me
Who knows where we shall meet again
If ever
But time
Keeps flowing like a river (on and on)
To the sea
To the sea

Till it's gone forever
Gone forever
Gone forevermore

Forevermore

Forevermore

Forevermore

Forevermore

Forty years ago, my wife and I had this as our wedding song (inaproriate, but we always find ways to twist the words to fit our lives together)

Dreams reside in a strange place in the mind. Last night I had this song playing loudly in my head as I slept and I would feel instant deep sadness. I would then get distracted in my dream, fight back the tears, and move on to something else, only to have the song come back on again. It's one of those dreams where you just can't shake it, even after waking up.

This song always makes me think of my sister and a certain period of time in my life. When I was a kid we would go camping as a family to Lakes of the North, just outside of Gaylord, MI. Whatever radio station we could pull in as we drove north on I75 would always seem to find Casey Kassem and we would hear this song a lot.

Last night's dream took me to a very specific place in time and a very specific memory. I was probably around 6 or 7 the summer that my sister got to bring a friend camping with us. They ended up meeting a guy at one of the beaches and they all hung out a bit during our trip. One day we were in the parking lot of the riding stables when my sister and her friend spotted the guy riding by on his motorcycle. As he rounded the turn, past the trees, and just out of sight, he crossed the center line and ran head-on into an oncoming motorhome.

As a young kid I couldn't quite understand the magnitude of what unfolded just beyond those trees, even as I watched the ambulance and fire truck go by. Or why my mom wouldn't let me go up to the road to stand by my brother and sister. I couldn't figure out why my sister and her friend were so sad, or why they cried every time this song played on the radio after that.

Now I'm sitting here with that song in my head and the lyrics in front of me, feeling very heavy. Thinking about the people who are no longer with me. My sister died a few years after that. Now both of my parents are gone. My brother chose to separate himself from our family years ago, so he only talks to me when there's a funeral. I think back to our family on those camping trips all those years ago. I never would have imagined that it would feel so lonely as an adult.

Only God Almighty can tell the exact time. I thank you for every second of my life especially to those who I was able to share it with.
