When a sea turtle meets a jellyfish, the encounter can sometimes end in tears. But not because anybody got stung! Sea turtles have a totally different adaptive reason to cry after meeting - or rather, eating - jellyfish.

The real reason turtle's cry is because the peanutbutterfish is extinct and jelly with out peanut butter would make anyone sad.

Those spikes in the throat is why plastic bags kill them. They can't puke out anything except water. So be responsible and (a) only get plastic bags if paper isn't an option and (b) throw them into the recycling bin. All trash that gets thrown anywhere else has a high chance of ultimately ending up in the ocean.

There is an old myth I was told by an old man fishing off a peir in Panama City Beach when I was about 6. He said the sea was made from the tears of the turtle that carried the world and that was why it was salty. It always stuck with me.

Pretty sure the salt glands are there because they need to get rid of the salt they drink from the sea water. Not specifically from the jellies. A lot of marine vertebrates do this.
