THANKS!! I just bought a new locking gas cap and have to remove my old-style original cap. I didn't want to ruin it, so this video is extremely helpful to me! Thanks again.

Thank you so much for showing this video - I had no idea how to replace my petrol cap and I just went out to my car and realised I hadn't clicked the cap!

Hi Paul, great information ! Auto Zone now offers a kit to replace just the tether on a gas cap. The kit has several pieces to help adapt it to your cap, and is relatively inexpensive.

Thank you! I have a Ford truck so not sure this will apply but I wanted to see if it could be done. I took my truck to emissions, a few months ago, and actually watched the tech do this but my anxiety of people kept me from addressing it; I watched him rip off the cap (completely, and it was fine prior) and proceed to check the fumes or whatever they do and then put it back on. My mom told me to take it back to them and demand they fix it but they are usually crowded and there is no way to prove it was them, solely. I just want this fixed as I am tired of my Check Engine coming on every time I am low on gas. So, thank you. I will look into buying a a new cap.

Thank you for the information. I noticed that when you took the cap off, your tank did not have one of those mirky clear things that I see on a lot of vehicle gas tanks. Mine does not have one either. Is that normal?

After trying for a long time I saw there is a place on the door of the gas cap to set the cap in while you are fueling and decided to use that and hell with the rubber string!

I was looking up a locking gas cap for my 2011 Saab 9-3 XWD and everybody says "this does not fit your Saab"! They did have one for my 2007 9-3. Guess what? The gas caps are the SAME for the Saab 9-3, from 03-11, so anybody reading this, just find one that fits in this year range and you are all set! The Saab part number is 19432733. Hey, nice video! God bless!

Thank you! My check engine light has been on for weeks and all the auto places tell me it's my gas cap [i don't believe that tho] and i have no idea how to get the tether off. I was so scared I was going to break it, now I know I can use pliers and be rough with it. I'm gonna go out and do that now in fact. Thank you!!
