Now this is some honest, sincere truthful advice! As an 18 year web development dev, and a THIRTY year software dev veteran, this guy is spilling some truth.

Few things. I strongly believe that someone who wants to take on developing, first thing has to get a grasp of data structures and some basic algorithms. Without them, you are not worthy of the term 'developer'. Next thing I would argue with is jQuery. A strong understanding of JS is much better than jQuery. Furthermore, jQuery is really useless nowadays in the age of the big players. Better is to take on a ReactJS course instead of bothering with jQuery. So my conclusion these are my suggested steps to getting into development:
1. Learn Algorithms and Data Structures,
2. Learn HTML then CSS and then JS,
3. Learn Git,
4. Learn JS, more. Read all the "You don't know JS" books. Get up to speed with ES6,
5. Learn ReactJS (I do not recommend AngularJS since it's outdated nor do I recommend Angular since it is much harder to master requiring TypeScript),
At this point, you should be able to do some smaller projects for clients. And if you feel like you can do more than continue the next steps.
6. Learn the agile (let's say Kanban) approach,
7. Learn NodeJS and NPM
8. Learn MongoDB or MySQL
9. Learn how to build apps, let's say webpack,
10. GOTO step 1 and repeat.

By the way, if anyone is still reading and wants to take on developing(not engineering as mentioned in the video) and wants a coach, drop me a PM on Instagram (easiest way to reach me) @mbelmin. I have the wish to coach someone. Ofc for free :)

Aaron your f**kin awesome. To take your time out of your own schedule and share both real time experience and giving advice to the community has been very helpful. Switching over careers to code is true dedication.

Personally, I've found it very helpful to build simple apps as you go. You learn a few features and then build something simple using those features. This helps to understand them better and remember. Otherwise you kinda forget stuff as you learn and end up with a lot of vagueness and misunderstanding

(My best reccomendation is to do freecodecamp - JavaScript Basics.) (CodeCademy - JavaScripts fundamentals) (OdinProject - Webdevelopment101, Javascript). Do them all. Start with Freecodecamp and use the view hint video in every problem when needed. In addition there's a YouTuber called usefulprogrammer who covers all of freecodecamp who you can pull up his videos side by side for an additional video resource.

Great roadmap! I did a bootcamp too, definitely gave me the structure to become a frontend dev relatively quickly!

Excellent advice, Aaron. You're a good man and I wish I had a mentor like you.

One thing, though: please stop accelerating the speed of the playback, before posting the video. Yes, it's a long video and it's packed with really important information. Which is reason enough to make the delivery of the larger message a priority.

Yes, people can adjust the playback speed within the YouTube video player if they so choose. But this information is sufficiently important to deserve the best-possible delivery and presentation. So what if the end-to-end time is 13:00, rather than 10:28? You're changing lives here. Sell the sizzle, not the steak.

Thank you, brother, for all that you do for the development community.

I can highly recommend Harvards CS50 Course (free) for Introduction in Programming.
First few Weeks are in C but later you choose your path between iOS, Android, Game- or Web-Development.

Thank you for getting right to the point. I was so tired of 30 min. Video's where the first 15 mins was a life story. Great video!!!
