Tonight I'm taking a look at Badfinger playing 'No Matter What' in 1972! (Not 1970 as I say in the video!)

One of the saddest story's in rock.
RIP, Pete.

I saw Badfinger (opening act Al Kooper ) at NYC Carnegie Hall, March 1, 1972. Fantastic !!

What breaks my heart the most is they wrote the most covered song of all time (and so much more) and they both died penniless. Stan Polley should have got a life sentence for what he did.

2025 and I still love them! It's a shame they had so much talent and were treated so horribly by one man. That's a damn shame. Thank you for the memories and RIP all of you😢

I was in a band in the 90s called Hannah Cranna on the Big Deal label. Joey Molland produced our second record and lived with me for a month while we were working on it . Fil, you are spot on with the financial analysis here…so great job!…To give you an idea of where Joe was financially at that time we worked with him (1997)- we were given a budget of $10, 000 for the whole record. Joe agreed to produce for $3, 000 - about $1000 a week. When we first met, I apologized to him that we couldn’t afford more and he told me not to worry about it…he was doing it to sort of put his name out there as a producer. I honestly can’t say enough nice things about this man. Despite what some have said about Joe, he loved his band mates…especially Pete Ham. Another thing I can tell you about Joe was that he knew how to play hardball with record labels. We went a few thousand dollars over budget on that lp but Joe told us to wait until the check was in hand before giving over the master tapes, and boy was he right. They easily absorbed it, got a great record, and could now say their middling label had a connection to Badfinger. The really cool thing about Joe was that he was a survivor- but one who never lost his humanity.

I loved their music, such great melodic songs, not to mention the outstanding talent. So sad to hear of their misfortune at the hands of a greedy madman.

"I remember finding out about you. Every day my mind is all around you"... My favorite Badfinger song. Nice analysis video as usual.

They really were talented, and are overlooked. All one has to do is to sit down and see the Concert For Bangladesh one time and how much they helped to make that show excellent. Then you can see the harmonies and the ability to play and perform with the likes of Georgie, Ringo, Clapton, et al in a big time setting.

Thank you, Fil, both for the analysis and the passionate account of the band's mistreatment and where that lead.

Watching this just one week after Joey’s passing. I’m devastated. He was such a nice guy and his love for music never faded, in spite of the tragedy with his band. I loved how he continued to play and also record. Hopefully he is reunited with the rest of Badfinger and they’re making music together once again. Rest in Peace Pete, Tom, Mike and now Joey. 💔

Thank you for sharing Badfinger's music and story! Those greedy wicked music industry vultures 😡have blood on their hands and they will ultimately answer for what they've done...😪
✌❤🤘

Thanks Fil. I have heard Badfinger referred to as the best band of all time whose name you can't remember. Their music was amazing. Cheers.

Given their closeness, and personal relationships individually between the already broken up Beatles and the thriving Badfinger, I wish one or more of the Beatles could have helped these guys out. They HAD to know the big picture. What a tragic story.

Awesome band. Man, I miss the 70s. Fantastic new music, summer days of hanging out with tons of neighborhood kids in the park, parents nowhere to be seen, and smoking my first joint✌. Nothing will ever compare with those carefree, fun filled days. This music takes me back immediately and I'm truly gratetful Fil. Cheers💗
