👉 There are 3 steps to resolve this issue.
1. Try a hard reset at the battery.
Hard Reset
1. Disconnect both battery cables.
2. Touch the cable ends together (away from the battery) for 15 seconds.
(Note: If the cables will not reach each other, a jumper wire can be installed to connect the cables.)
3. Reconnect the cables Positive Cable First to avoid any voltage spikes.
Touching the cables together drains the reserve voltage in the Module Capacitors, causing the Modules to reset and re-establish communications. This might resolve the issue.
Alternatively, you can just disconnect the negative battery cable, however you must leave it disconnected for at least 3 hours. (Preferably, overnight)
2. If the hard reset did not resolve the issue, you must check ALL of the vehicle fuses with a test light.
There are a lot fuses on this vehicle there is no way to "guess" which fuse has shorted based off of just looking.
Here is a link to a short video on how to check fuses with a test light (Click the link)
For most of the 2018 Rav4's there is one fuse box under the hood and one under the dash driver side. There are many variants for this year model.
Replace any fuse that only has power on one side
3. If no shorted fuses were found and the hard reset had no effect you will have to take the vehicle to a shop equipped with Toyota proprietary software to resolve the issue.
This means either the Toyota dealer or a shop specializing in Toyota repairs.
