I'm Central Asian Turkmen. I went to a boarding school run by Anatolian Turks.
When I asked my Turkish teacher if we were cousin nations, he said "No, we are literally one nation, separated by the Iron Curtain for a generation".

This makes our relationship with the Anatolian Turks, and other Middle Eastern Turkmen, much closer.

We are not just one of the Turkic nations, like the Kazakhs or Kyrgyz.

Historically speaking, until very recently, all the Oghuz Turks were called Turkmen.

I have met people from these countries.
From Turkmenistan, to Iraq, Syria, Azerbaijan, and Turkiye, there is a linguistic and cultural continuum.

I can't begin to explain the warm and brotherly feeling I got when I met them for the first time, and realized our dialects are for about 70% mutually intelligible, and that rises up to 95% after listening to each speak for few hours.

I get emotional just talking about it 😅

Thank you for making this 🙏

Much love from the Netherlands

I am 76 years old and consider myself and educated man. Yet, I have never heard any of this remarkable history. This knowledge is essential to begin to grasp the state of the world today. Thank you for the production of this work.

Actually, the Byzantines and Armenias had prior knowledge of the Turks when they were still known as the "Western Göktürk Empire". They had good relations with the Byzantines, and were allied with them against the Persians. So the Byzantines knew much about the Turks, and their ways, and probably so did the Armenians.

Shit, Turkish history is wildly interesting! And I don’t mean Turkeys history, but the history of the Turks and Mongols. I wouldn’t be apposed to seeing a 30 hour documentary on a Turkish history with detail like this!

"These populations are long haired, good archers, very skilled in carving ram and horse statues from stone. They called their God Khan-Tengri." (Moisey Kagankatvasi, The History of Agvan, Regarding Turk existence in Eastern Anatolia in 7th century)

nobody and I mean NOBODY covers this period well. What youtube needs is more history channels like yours that glue together the whys and hows of the all too well trod dates and great man theories of History that leave us failing to understand REALLY what life was like back then.

1-)The military success of the Turks was so high that they managed to establish 11 states in Iran.(920 years)
2-)India was dominated by Turkic states for 1000 years.(Mughal, Delhi, Hepthalites, Ghazne)
3-)They managed to establish seven states in Europe.

As a Tatar, maybe I may not look at the objective, but I say that military service is our job.

History is so incredibly complex. Central Asian, even more so!

I wish people did some deep reading into history before using what little knowledge they have to build their opinions

The strength of the this steppe nomads is not in their horse archery. It's in their nomadic lifestyle. This nomads travel in caravan, with their families and livestock in tow. They are essentially a self-sustain army which help contribute to their impressive display of mobility. They are also used to live a frugal lifestyle, so they can go a long way with very little. Compare this to the settled people. Their army need a long and vulnerable supply line and a substantial amount of creature comfort just to keep their moral.

I never ever saw a documentary about the Turks so neutraly, very good to listen aswell, Respect. Indeed Anatolia belongs almost a millennium to the Turks and no way to change that. Battles are the evidence to it. Crazy nomads. Anyway thank U for this proper education🙏🏼♥️ to others who don't know our history yet this is a correct explanation in short but it's the right one. But this one is Nr 1 documentary... 🙏🏼♥️🇹🇷

At last, a History of this part of the World, from their viewpoint! Most of what we have is from European sources, tainted by their past Political and Religious Aditudes towards this part of the World. What I like most about your channel, is your ability to show all sides of History, without bias towards any one side and how they inneract with each other over time. Most of the older European History, is written as seen by the Culture or Nation of the Historian and often modified to fit their views of people's seen as Historical enemies of Europe. We want to look at the History of these People through their own eyes, to see them as they see themselves, the True History. Keep up the Great Work!

my grandfather and grandmother are nomadic people. Although Ottoman nomadic Turks make a lot of effort to settle down, nomadic life is indispensable for Turks. As our ancestor Dadaloğlu, a nomadic Turk, said the edict sultan's mountains are ours.
