I'll do my best to explain it properly, No-self, as in the conceptual self, the idea of self, as in I, does not really exist, it's a simplification of ones true identity, which is empty by default, later to be deluded into a sense of attached identity, which becomes the unconcious ego, the general stream of thoughts that dictates ones unconcious behavior. to be concious is to transcend the process of thinking, and to be awake, present, in the moment, with no need to identify with a conceptual idea, a sense of conceptual identity, such as the culture or religion you were brought into, or the idea of I, it's basically is a detachment of the attachment of "understanding" to experience things as are, a pure sensual experience. And with that comes realization of self, which is being a part of the whole, no separation, everything is connected and one.

The self is not a concept of mind and thought, the self is the experiencer of the experience..

Very profound understanding. I also appreciate that you have "The World" in your shrine in the backdrop. Again. Very profound understanding. Blessings to everybody. Thank you.

Peace.

If you ever have the chance, read the 5-volume book series known as "The Philokalia". A Great supplement to that is also the book "Holy Hesychia: The Stillness that Knows God".

Peace.

Isn't Rupert Spira teaching the incorrect view of "no-self"?

Thank you so much for this. This concept has scared me for so long. There are way too many people that are spreading "the self does not exist" and I agree its dangerous

Very clear explanation on the important question that has confused so many for so long.🙏

The self exists as a dependent arising and is empty of inherent existence. To say it doesn't exist is nihilism. To see it as permanent is eternalism. The middle way is between the two. The self is like an illusion but not an illusion.

I get that the self is related. There is a similar idea in western academia - "essentialism"; there is no permanent unchanging essence. What I'm wondering about is the difference between the (related-)selves. Are the differences important? I tend to think in terms of organic metaphors (we are parts of an organism or ecosystem) rather than 'inanimate' ones (a drop in the ocean). How do the aggregates hang together as someone who is distinctive - who we recognise as different to others?

A theory is Non-self somehow be mistaken as No-self. Hopefully No-self and Non-self camps will not be in war, just like Catholic vs Protestant.

The problem is not if we have a "self" or not, the problem is the 20, 000 kids that die of starvation everyday, the thousands who happens to be modern day slaves, the thousands of girls and women kidnaped by the sex and porn industry, the 1000s of people being tortured by established Government. The poisoning of Earth. Wars. Etc. The culture of the "Self" (the narsissistic "I am important", "Me, Me, Me") is irrelevant to anything.

Seems a lot of folks are responding to the video title or the initial premise rather than the video as a whole. Guess that's the problem when you discuss semantics. Even a simple teaching such as this can fall on deaf ears. I like that you left the question in the air and moved on to give folks a way to follow along, but apparently some commenters wished to be spoonfed. Good luck in the future, here's hopin' you find a more open audience moving forwards.

He is already dead, earth, fire, wind and water. If you want to escape the cycle of birth and death act in in abidance with the dhamma. But you will have many many more lives in multiple realms before ever coming close to full enlightenment. So flow and be with flow. So cliche, be like water. Empty of a seperate self.

If reincarnation and statistics are real.... then the human population is skyrocketing while animal populations are plummeting, does this mean as a whole, the world is more one now than ever before? You only come back as an animal if you fail to rid yourself of ego and fail in the 8 fold path right? So must mean way more people are becoming enlightened I suppose.

I agree, I feel like the teaching of no self is completely taken out of context nowadays and it can be harmful.
