Some people speculated that gaming on ThreadRipper is going to be horrible but i can't seem to make those people understand what the point of this chip is, its not to game and you can game on it but it would be stupid to waste that much money for just gaming. Rather go with the Ryzen 5 1600x for gaming

Did anyone else realise that in the chart the ryzen 7 1800x was put in twice

Every tech channel in my subscription box came in the same time for this thing.

Did you remove the +27C degree DeltaC when measuring temps? Your temps are the only ones that differ massively compared to the other reviewers. Cheers

I've actually got a 1950X coming in the mail soon. I'm going to be using it for an unRAID box while running multiple VMs for software development and some gaming (maybe streaming). Seeing as I'm upgrading from a Phenom II X4 955BE: there's only up from here.

proud new papa of a 1950x space ship. I'll be doing test runs to compare to the now defunkt FX 8320 which has been put out to pasture. Honestly, I don't even know how I managed to grind my teeth working on serious editing projects with the FX, all I can say now is that I feel like a kid about to unwrap presents at xmas! So humbled and so blessed. Good review guys by the way, lot of beautiful shots and camera work with clean audio and presentation. Keep up the work.

I decided to buy the 1950X. I do grid computing around the clock, and in grid computing the number of cores matter (far more than minor clock speed fluctuations).

as always great review, my favorite YT channel for tech reviews

I'd still get that 1950X. I need any CPU power that I can get for 3D rendering and a market of shaky GPU drivers won't cut it

I 99% sure that the Zenith Extreme has wireless AD, not AC. Which is, of course, better.

Intel pissed me off with their handling of X299.

Nvidia pissed me off with pretty much all of their business practices and how they've completely ruined GFE.

Next build: Threadripper/Vega

Something that's not getting much attention is AVX performance. I've read that threadripper requires 2 cycles for one AVX instruction whereas intel CPUs require only 1 cycle. I don't know if threadripper's frequency and voltage go down when doing AVX work - intel's CPUs do so because AVX generates MUCH more heat - but it's only like 15% down. That means intel CPUs should win big time in programs that make use of AVX a lot. There aren't a lot of tests that confirm this and I would like to try it myself. Unfortunately I can't just buy all those CPUs and other hardware required just for a test.

Its interesting how you pointed out TR weakness in compression but not he's total domination in decompression. Specially since most of the users use decompression far more offten.
