"You don't look like a kid whose mom has cancer" How...how are they supposed to look?

"You don't look like a kid whose mom has cancer! Quit making sob story excuses!"

OP shown massive restraint in not backhanding that heartless teacher right then and there. I would not be able to control myself if it were me. Who the hell thinks someone's mom having cancer is a "sob story excuse"? Jeez, this teacher is evil as hell. Good thing she didnt get the job as a second teacher, imagine the nightmares.

2nd story: “you don’t look like a kid who’s mom has colon cancer” I literally face palmed like what the actual hell, I can’t believe someone would say that

The pure AUDACITY of that stupid computer teacher TO DIRECTLY TELL A STUDENT THAT THEIR PARENT(S) HAVING CANCER IS A EXCUSE LIKE WTF LADY-!

As someone who watched a parent die from cancer, if anyone had said anything to me in the vein of "you don't look like someone who's parent has cancer" they'd be getting a trip to the ER. Even my school bullies didn't touch that ground.

That story about Mrs. S reminds me of how much I appreciated my programming teacher in high school. He was fantastic. He didn't just teach us how to code, but also taught us better problem solving, stress management, and sometimes life lessons. He was also a philosophy teacher. He even taught us some tai chi during a world religions class (he wasn't the teacher for that class). An absolute legend in my book. I hope he's living a happy and fulfilled life. Thank you Mr. S (no relation to the Mrs. S in the story)

my mom got cancer when I was in high school (she is doing good now) and my grades went down quickly because we just moved, first, because of the stress of course, and also because I helped as much as I could with my little brothers. The director called her for a teacher / parent meeting, and told her, looking straight in her face "I don't care if you are about to die, the society pay for her to go to school, she has to work". My mother never recovered to these words.

Story one.... Why was this evil teacher not reported to the principal for her behavior, and charged with theft of the other teacher's equipment? She should have been fired, and her teaching credentials permanently revoked! 😮

'You dont look like a kid whos ma has cancer...' what tf is that supposed to look like?! Iunno how OP didnt backhand that idiot into next year. How was that teacher able to get away with all that shit with no oversight? No one checked in on the sub to make sure everything was going well? No one, other then OP's badass ma, spoke up? She was detrimental to their education and was able to do whatever, how was she able to fail as much as she did?!

Story 2: So she only has experience with two Microsoft apps and nothing else and thought that she could teach a programming class that uses none of that. Like, even Python, which the classes I'm taking use, is better.

Why did they even hire her as a substitute, she clearly wasn't ready for the material she was SUPPOSED to teach!

And that's not even getting into her treatment of the students, she's got issues

Story 2: Im surprised OP held themself back there.
If somebody had the audacity to imply that I was *lying about a family member DYING OF CANCER, * I'd be grabbing the nearest pencil and [REDACTED]

Wallet thief happened to me too. I was at a rock music night, and we generally kept our bags and coats on the edges of the room. Someone saw one of the guys in our extended friend group over in that general direction earlier in the night after I discovered my wallet missing.

I reported it to the Union staff, and the next day they let me know that it had been discarded under one of the tables near the front door, missing the cash ofc, so I got it all back.

A few days later he came up to me and apologised for my wallet going missing, but not that he had done it, we all knew it was him. He also gave me the £20 I lost 'to make up for it'. We're all poor students, why would any of us hand over money if we weren't guilty? None of my actual friends gave me money :P

That second story could've totally been me in an alternate reality lol. For my GCSE's I initially took IT as I've always been really good with tech but I transferred to art after 2 months as the IT teacher was so incompetent. Like not only were we made to do the most basic of basic things but we were forced to go at HER pace. So each lesson was us doing something that would normally take about a minute to do but it took an hour as we had to stop and start over and over, which was absolute torture for me. It's also a wild coincidence as my dad also had colon cancer during that timeframe although I was much less successful at keeping my emotions to myself. My dad has thankfully been cancer free for well over 5 years now which is a positive as my uncle (his brother) and my granddad (his dad) have both died from it.

Story 2: Excel is Turing complete, so it counts as a programming language. But it is not powerful like C and Java that can use all of the features of a computer. Its strong suit is the pre-programmed functions and user friendliness. Access is a database and can do the various functions of SQL. But it also lacks the strength and versatility of SQL. Its strong suit is user friendliness. That teacher is on a high horse and ignorant.
Saying "Your grades are slipping" in front of everyone is a FERPA violation.

I'm sorry I'm echoing everyone else but I had to stop everything at that.
'You don't look like a kid whose mom has cancer'
...it was at that moment that I, for 3-4 seconds, floated the thought of making murder a misdemeanor for certain cases.

As someone who lost my mom to cancer, if that teacher had said something like that to me she wouldn't be walking away!

I've never heard of the term Gazumping, but In the U.S, Once an offer is made, it's binding.

If you're thinking "What about x? Is that still binding?" There are things like jokes or questions that suggest offers. They complicate things, but generally speaking, "I'll sell you x for y" is a pretty iron clad statement. "Would you be willing to sell for 200$?" is not an offer.

I hate when people say "we all make mistakes" about people choosing to commit crimes. A mistake is something like texting the wrong person, making a wrong turn, or getting a job that sucks. That person decided to steal someone's wallet and then consciously chose to spend their money at a bar, fully knowing that they were stealing from someone, that it was objectively morally wrong, and that they could end up in jail for it. That's not a simple mistake, they chose to be a bad person.

I feel like maybe the guy in the first story should BECOME a private investigator!
