Best thing about it is that animate dead can be active alongside it. This not only gives you 7 undead allies to soak up hits, but the paralysis the ghouls inflict makes it really easy to get newborn zombies

Once you get to some of the harder enemies, they dont do much, but they do make good meat shields!

One good thing about the new nerfed danse macabre, is that the ghoul npcs can use detect presence, allowing them to uncover invisible enemies on their own. This is something unique to npcs, and has way better dc compared to see invisibility.

I was so excited to use this spell, but everytime it was "ghoulin' time" I was either severely disappointed at how weak they were compared to other summons or angry at their death explosion, which did more damage to me than my enemies

This ability was nerfed into the ground with the ghouls being controlled by ai being the final nail in the coffin.

Honestly i wish instead of getting 5 ghouls the necromancy subclass would be allowed to direcly control them instead of their ai.

there is a book in the laboratory (and another one place) that talk about Tharchiate Codex if you read this book and talk to a certain someone in baldurs gate you get to know the use of Tharchiate Codex, in my actual paladin walktrough i unlock the necromancy of thay everytime

An important thing is these ghouls, post nerf, cannot be manually controlled.

Just got this. Astarion rolled a crit fail but I got the spell anyway plus a curse that I just had Shart remove. Four ghouls per long rest is pretty sick
