That's a good way to warn them you might threaten someone else's job.

I'm more of a, "What can I do that is helpful to this organization, but be left alone and work from home?" 😂 kinda guy

Happy to see the comment section. Whatever tip he gives, i don't think its a checkbox to tick and leave. The timing matters. I feel like this question should never be asked in an interview where you should be more humble to get a job. It should be asked in a different context or when you are more likely to get hired or promoted.

The interviewer will know if you’re just asking this question just to be hired. If you throw out this question, make sure the rest of the interview is also top tier 😊

Only in organisations where there a no ego’s running around protecting their own power and influence and keeping the rest small and ‘ in their role’

As someone who hires people quite often, questions like that are a major red flag. They show that the person you're interviewing is interested in personal success, money and power. I understand where this guy is coming from, but don't ask narcissistic things like this, trust me.

I can see this being good in certain situations, but only if the interviewee presents visually and demeanor-wise in a way that works in tandem with such a question.

Mock professionalism is easy to spot.

Can I put it this way? 'How can I guarantee that I will land on a project that will add value to this organization's strategic goals for the future?'

Great way to be shown the door. If they wanted your strategic opinion theyd ask you to invest in the business.

This is good advice because of the way management thinks, but it shows a fallacy in the way they think. In my 40 years experience the ones who goes in to get ahead, to wind up in charge are interested in looking good. In sticking around a project long enough to get recognized and then move on before success or failure is evident. In short, they think of themselves, aren't team players, and care more about appearance than results. I was taught that whatever you do, be the best there is at that. By conquering that thing, your focus is on results.

So then the boss knows you're gunning for his job and won't hire you because you're a threat to expose him as incompetent.

You can have that attitude and outlook and truly believe it. But the odds are against you, when the machine grinds you to a pulp, you most likely will sing a different tune

This is a way to let your employer know you are going to be a problem, you will ask for more money and prob management position

"How can I be guaranteed to be involved in projects that are critical to the strategic importance of the organization?"

That’s a good way to get buried in work you aren’t qualified for while never getting promoted. The only way to advance in an organization is to schmooze.

"Yes, you'll be strategically making fries and shakes."

It doesn't work if the person interviewing you thinks you'll eventually take their job, you will not be called back by that person. There are a lot of them out there.
