This is the best temple one could ever see in India. I happened to travel to trichy from Mumbai for work and traveled all the way to thanjavur to see it as I had one day free. Trust me the architecture is out of the world. Never come across such a magnificent temple like this. Thanks to Cholas, pandians and pallava kings for building such a gem of iconic architecture. Equally deserving are the people of Tamil Nadu who have preserved and maintained this temple till date.

Why didn't it take its place among the wonders of the world? If the choices were
made in the right sense Hindustan's marvelous historic creations would have occupied almost all the top positions among the wonders of the world ! If the aliens from other worlds were asked to choose from their point of view no doubt they would pick the top 5 from Hindustan. So rich is our ancestors' marvelous creations in their designs, accuracy, imaginativeness and technical precision and above all ingenuity.

Now this knowledge is only in the genes of Indians. Not anywhere else. External invasion and exploitation completely destroyed the architecture knowledge of ancient Indians.

The truth is revealed by the telling of the means of construction; the puzzle method. The pieces of the puzzle were all products of molds. All details were sculpted in clay and then cast in man-made stone concrete which was then assembled in a methodical process.

The top "stone" is not a stone but an engineered multi-block construction covered with stone stucco in order to support the delusion that it is was once one solid object. The more awesome the story that can be told...the more respect and devotion it receives, including pilgrimages to visit it and pay homage....which includes contributions of course. It's an amazing ancient wonder and tribute to the genius of ancient architects, not ancient masons.
