Well tbh Dionysus actully predated Zeus he is more then a god of wine he is a god of madness and death rebirth with domino and control over it all. The only reason Zeus wouldn’t believe in him is out of fooling him self he isn’t real .... out of fear

Dionysus was actually created before Zeus by an earlier culture, and he was way OP

The concept of Dionysus is insane. I’ve spent part of the last year or so trying to understand the Eleusinian Mysteries and I’m still confused. Like are Dionysus, Iacchus, and Zagreus the same character or separate? Is Iacchus the child of Dionysus or is he Kore’s sibling? Did Zeus revive Zagreus and turn him into a thrice born drunkard because he lost his favorite son?All I know is that I need a drink.

This is hilarious because Zeus is WAY more likely than anyone else to give a bunch of people drinking problems.

This is why mythology is so interesting. Dionysus is actually one of the earliest attested gods in Greek culture. Also Bacchae is just an amazing tragedy. One of my faves.

Actually, we don't know much about dionysus but he was was basically a force of nature. His presence would whip any human near him into such a frenzy that no one ever even knew what his face looked like. There would always just be wild drunken people and at the center a completely calm guy, just drinking some wine watching what was going on. We don't even know if he personally liked to party that much. Pretty cool story.
