Jude I get that the W1000 Sony is comfortable and has great noise cancelling, but without the active EQ enabled it sounds so bad. Doing A B comparisons with my own EQ to reproduce manually, what it's DAC does automatically it looked like the rocky mountains. In passive mode there are huge 6+db peaks and valleys in the midrange, where most of the musical information resides. They sound like hollow tin can resonators in passive mode. Why does this matter you say? Well for one the EQ can't be defeated. So any change like new pads, modding the enclosure to make them flatter sounding, etc will make them sound better naturally, but worse in active mode. So you can't mod them, and they need serious modding to fix their midrange.

I am digging 2 new released headphones in this CanJam. One is Focal clear. Looks much improved accessories and well positioned sound between elear and utopia. Fortunately I did't buy elear last year but this year's clear I am really tempted. Very curious how does it compare to HD 800S. The other is the Klipich hp3. I am digging the look so much. It looks so nice and can't wait to try them on. Tthe MSRP had raised to 1200. Already owned beyer T5p 2nd gen and hesitated to get these . It is a shame that I can't attend this years' CanJam. Hope more deep comparison reviews coming soon.

What about earbuds? The chi-fi currently is very interesting place to dive in! Much cheaper prices for similar experience in comparison with hi-end few-thousand dollars headphones.
