In part 1 of this series, I want to introduce you to how you can swing trade SPX options with limited risk using the same risk-reward principles you may already know from standard trading. It all comes down to understanding your delta and avoiding short-dated expirations. The first SPX option spread we review in this video is the OTM Calendar spread, and in part 2, we will review Long Butterfly Spread.

Apologies for the “newbie” question but I can’t figure out why you short the closer expiration. I know theta outweighs losses on the farther out trade but am confused still about shorting something in the opposite direction you think it’s going to go… thank you!
