Is that a capo? That’s not a bass gadget…
Reminds me of the time I read a music journalist refer to triplets as a hiphop term.

...isn't that just a rolling capo? I bought one ("Glider Capo") 3 years ago for my Steinberger guitar (I have another that has one built in) and noticed it works perfectly fine on the bass, too. They make changing in the middle of things really easy.

Do you really need this clickbait title?

I've had the distinct pleasure of seeing Michael Manring play live. I even shook his hand afterwards! A lovely man, a talented artist, and a signature style that you know is his immediately upon hearing it. Thanks for sharing, Scott!

His Zon bass guitars have specifically designed pegs that allow pre-incremented for on the fly tuning. Michael Manring is amazing.

I saw Micheal when he played bass for Micheal Hedges in 94 at The Bottomline with maybe 30 people in the audience. Awesome performance!!!

Michael Manring is my favorit player, when it comes to creativity, in modern music.
The fusion of rythem /melodie, is so powerfull, in his compositions.
I listen to his music for over twenty years, now.
A true virtuos player, with amazing abilitys on the bass.
For everyone, who is not familiar with his music: "You have to check his solo work and collaborations. For example: Michael Manring with Michael Hedges."
Mindblowin music, from a special musican.
I hope you'll enjoy it, like this short vid, here.

Definitely the weirdest bass gadget in history.
But what's that thing he's using up near the nut of his bass? ;)

How would I know? You didn’t even show it.

the clicks you hear is his finger knocking a muted string creating the click sound. He made one album in particular which is one of my all time favs. forget the name right now.

It's The Manthing! I remember the first time I saw him was Bass Day 98. Blown away. Pure genius at the instrument.

What can you say about Michael ? He can absolutely play anything. And when playing a supporting role ? Rock solid, and deep in the pocket .
