I play the bass with a BOW for the first time... Remember to BOW like and subscribe if you enjoyed this!

I used cello strings for this, which are essentially flatwounds that are somewhere between bass and guitar strings in thickness. Flatwounds definitely sound much better when bowing, for anyone who's interested in trying this!

The Icelandic artist Jónsi, leader of Sigur Rós, uses a cello bow on his electric guitar most of the time. It’s a huge part of the band’s ethereal sound.

I want a bunch of people to just play bass like this in an informal orchestra one day

This genuinely feels like a somber arrangement of a video game protagonist’s theme that’s supposed to play during a tragic moment within the plot

Anyone who can take an instrument, play it in different ways & make it sound so peaceful & warm, definitely has a grip on what music is all about! This is lovely & would sound great with other instruments played similarly in harmony! True musician!

As a former violinist and aspiring bass player, this greatly pleases me. Even more so to see you holding the bow properly!

You can’t just drop something as beautiful as this without following up with an album.

The song is beautiful. Just so you guys know, double bass with a bow is a thing and it sounds just like this (without the mixing), so if you like that sound, there's more of it out there

Q: Is this an actual song or is this just off the top of his head?
A: The original song is "Return to the empty city that we once called home"
I listened to the whole song but I didn't like ANY of the rest of the song just the one small bit that he is playing here. So I'm just gonna stick to this video since I ONLY like this part of the whole song.
I'd love to hear a longer version of it but unfortunately there is no longer version of it...
But this part of the song is beautiful.

If this guy made a “relaxing bass” playlist, I’d listen to it instantly

Charles is the composer of this piece, People Legend credits him for the music on their album, you can see it in the credits section of their Return to the Empty City song on Spotify.

As a former cellist and now bass guitar player this makes me so happy❤❤❤

As someone who plays both the double bass and electric bass, I must test this IMMEDIATELY

Playing instruments in unconventional ways often leads to impressive sounds, like this. I love this.

This sounds like the end credits of a game where the main character sacrifices himself for the good of everyone. As the credits roll, you can see the NPCS reactions to learning your characters fate. The final screen is a statue of your character with the text saying "thanks for playing".

Edit: mandatory 100 likes edit.
Edit: I never expected this comment to get more than 200 likes. Thanks gamers.

On the 17th of June, 1966, the band The Creation released their debut single “Making Time”, the latter half of which had an electric guitar played with a bow. That song is anything but heavenly. It’s the best misuse of a bow I’ve ever heard, it’s goes super hard. Take a listen to the album version of you dare.

This is honestly incredible.

Totally unexpected honestly.

It sounds like a mix between a violin and a cello.

I have a cat who loves this song. She can be running around all crazy, but when i play this song, she calms down and just watches the video. She is 2 and this is the only song she has ever reacted to.

This brings back so much nostalgia from when i was really young. I feel like ive heard it a long time ago, but this song honestly reflects it

When a bow is used on a string instrument it gives it a voice, somewhat hollow but full of emotion, and I find that both breathtaking and cool as shit.
