Samuel L. Jackson speaks at the AIS Gala 2013

June 3rd, 2013 - Samuel L. Jackson, a person who stutters, was honored at the Freeing Voices, Changing Lives Benefit Gala for the American Institute for Stuttering (AIS). Samuel L. Jackson was introduced by Bruce Willis. The mistress of ceremonies for the gala was Emily Blunt. John Krasinski, Emily Blunt's husband, was also in attendance, in addition to John Stossel, Joe Moglia, Arthur Blank, and Alan Rabinowitz. The #AISgala is held annually to raise money for therapy scholarships for people who stutter. AIS is a non-profit organization that offers universally affordable therapy for people who stutter.

All of the honorees at all 7 galas have been people who stutter. Many have overcome stuttering or hide it in various ways, so that's not always apparent, but if you listen to what they have to say, they clearly understand what its like to stutter.

Watching you people just fills me with confidence that I can also defeat the stutter... (even I was bullied my entire school days)..probably the hardest thing to do is to not let people know that you stutter..because once you stutter..then that bad feeling sunk in :(
