I've been playing almost 29 years.
But actually just 1 year. The first 28 years, I only played punk, which I can do pretty well (but who can't?). A year ago I decided I wanted to break out of the punk bubble and really learn the instrument. I think what struck me the most was doom scrolling instagram and seeing all these young virtuosos show off their skills. Instead of envy, I've decided to put in the work to learn. Teens 20s and 30s wasted. But still got some time to learn.

I bought Shawn Lane's Powers of Ten instructional VHS video around 20yrs ago, and I still can't get past the first exercise.

Why is no one talking about Shawn lane. His speed is one thing, but the phrasing he had is insane. Shawn died 2004 but he's still 100 years ahead of us

3 years but I pretty much just stopped learning when I mastered power chords and chugs/gallops. Since I’m fully self taught I just don’t really know where I’m at, I usually just tell people that I can play the Master of Puppets intro and that’s where my skill level is at

Dude black dog was one of the first songs I learned and when I learned it I could NOT stop playing it I was so excited! Then I learned Sweet child o mine on accident basically.
